Cheers!

A quiet Thursday market with the promise of at least four beamers to land on Friday.....
inshore trawler skipper Plugger is keen to see the new fish market development go ahead as he prepares to anti-foul the Shiralee's hull......
ahead of him, one of the old timers, the Anthony has an electric bilge pump going - she must have the cleanest bilge in the harbour by now.......
bad news for the Manx Ranger, towed in by the Lizard lifeboat with suspected burnt out clutch plates......
cast against the morning sun.......
there's a rigging job and plenty of eyes to be spliced aboard the newly launched Holly Mae......
how good is your Breton? - when in Brittany it is customary, when drinking with others, to raise your glass and utter these words - almost the same meaning in Welsh!

Duck Race - your chance for a fun-filled family event.

Support Newlyn's Christmas harbour lights.

Bet big bucks and be the first duck to make it down to the sea - unmissable fun!

Certified! - Cornish Sardines - another triumph for teamwork in Newlyn!

Working together as a team has paid off for local catchers, merchants and other interested parties so that now the Cornish Sardine Fishery has been certified for a further five years - read the full account here on the MSC web site.

Holly Mae launced in Penzance wet dock.

After toasting with a bottle of bubbles, well wishers flocked aboard the Holly Mae after she was lifted into the water.....
and a steady stream of admirers stepped aboard for a closer look......
before her mast was dropped into place.

The number of traditional boats in the Bay increases steadily year on year - next week the Happy Return will sail for the Filets Bleus Festival in Comcarneau.

Thai green curried Cornish hake - with thanks to Sophie Grigson.

There are plenty of recipes when you can substitute fine Cornish hake, and here's a classic - 16 spring onions chopped and sautéd in oil for a minute before adding the green curry paste - you could make your own, but when Mae Ploy do such a fantastic job (as recommended by Keith Floyd) just use theirs.......
slowly stir in the coconut milk........
before adding the podded and skinned broad beans, peas, hake, and a few prawns if needed.......
irresistible!

Tuna landing time, for some.

The Nova Spero put ashore over 1200 albacore tuna yesterday after her second successful tuna trip.....
today, the Charisma powers through the gaps with her second trip aboard......
some people are just happy to get out through the gaps.....
past litter left by some anglers - haven't they heard of the Fishing for Litter scheme?.......
looking spic and span, the Sapphire is all but ready to dip her gear again......
not much room on the deck of a small inshore scalloper......
Newlyn's very own Uluru type rocks that change colour......
more boat being replaced on the AA......
one of the services provided by the harbour, waste oil disposal thanks to Eco Oil........
it's nigh on the top of a big spring tide so the boats must make sure they don't get neaped or be-neaped when they dry out at high water.

Moby Dick at the Minack.

An evening at the Minack, one of the world's most unique theatres is always a treat - top tips for an evening performance - get there early for a good view and bring your own picnic, take cushions to site on, a fleece blanket is best for when the sun goes down.......
at some stage the Mermaid III is likely to appear with a band of happy trippers to wave to......
the Mitre Players production of Moby Dick - a musical within a play as the girls of St Godley's school try to raise money using the props they have available to save the school with this extremely toungue-in-cheek version of the classic white whale chase.......
with his motley crew, the tortured Captain Ahab aboard the Pequod......
from the wheel deck scours the ocean for the fish of his nightmares......
and at some stage gives the production for a song and dance routines with spectacular water effect......
before the white whale and Ahab's deceased wife both appear before him......
and the battle of the minds commences......
before all hands are back on stage for the happy ending as the whale, the Pequod and the happy couple sail off into the distance..
