Thai green curried Cornish hake - with thanks to Sophie Grigson.

There are plenty of recipes when you can substitute fine Cornish hake, and here's a classic - 16 spring onions chopped and sautéd in oil for a minute before adding the green curry paste - you could make your own, but when Mae Ploy do such a fantastic job (as recommended by Keith Floyd) just use theirs.......
slowly stir in the coconut milk........
before adding the podded and skinned broad beans, peas, hake, and a few prawns if needed.......
irresistible!

Tuna landing time, for some.

The Nova Spero put ashore over 1200 albacore tuna yesterday after her second successful tuna trip.....
today, the Charisma powers through the gaps with her second trip aboard......
some people are just happy to get out through the gaps.....
past litter left by some anglers - haven't they heard of the Fishing for Litter scheme?.......
looking spic and span, the Sapphire is all but ready to dip her gear again......
not much room on the deck of a small inshore scalloper......
Newlyn's very own Uluru type rocks that change colour......
more boat being replaced on the AA......
one of the services provided by the harbour, waste oil disposal thanks to Eco Oil........
it's nigh on the top of a big spring tide so the boats must make sure they don't get neaped or be-neaped when they dry out at high water.

Moby Dick at the Minack.

An evening at the Minack, one of the world's most unique theatres is always a treat - top tips for an evening performance - get there early for a good view and bring your own picnic, take cushions to site on, a fleece blanket is best for when the sun goes down.......
at some stage the Mermaid III is likely to appear with a band of happy trippers to wave to......
the Mitre Players production of Moby Dick - a musical within a play as the girls of St Godley's school try to raise money using the props they have available to save the school with this extremely toungue-in-cheek version of the classic white whale chase.......
with his motley crew, the tortured Captain Ahab aboard the Pequod......
from the wheel deck scours the ocean for the fish of his nightmares......
and at some stage gives the production for a song and dance routines with spectacular water effect......
before the white whale and Ahab's deceased wife both appear before him......
and the battle of the minds commences......
before all hands are back on stage for the happy ending as the whale, the Pequod and the happy couple sail off into the distance..

Harbour Commissioners Open Day this Thursday in Newlyn.

For anyone unable to make last week's meetings, between 10-12am and 2-4pm this Thursday Newlyn Harbour Commissioners will be available to talk direct to anyone from the community wanting to have their say about the new fish market and fish auction proposals as the deadline for  the grant application looms closer.

The commissioners will be available in the first floor meeting room over the harbour office alongside the market.

Hazel Curtis and the Fleet survey arrive in Newlyn.

Looks like a positive response to Seafish's fleet survey as Hazel Curtis gets to talk to some local skippers and boat owners lured by 50% discount on equipment and the chance to benchmark their vessel's performance nationally.

She's showing her ribs!

An early visitor arrives out of the Monday morning mist.....
aboard the Imogen, young Roger and Nigel head for the ice works ........
plenty of TLC going into this restoration project.......
maybe some of the raft racers could do with that level of boat building expertise.....
while across the prom the flags are out straight on the Jubilee Pool......
Monday's market has some real quality with a good run of monk tails from the Britannia IV.......
and these cracking turbot snapped up by Ocean Fish........
the boys on the Dom Bosco must have taken rods or set shark lines on their last trip to catch these big blues.

Launch day for the good ship Bess.

Essex Boatyards has just delivered a solid looking new build......
in the shape of the good ship Bess......
she gets a steadying hand from the delivery driver.......
before being lowered into the water......
by boat lift man Royden......
then it's time to open the deck hatches to retrieve mooring ropes and fenders.
