The Fishermen of the World festival, meeting seafarers

“The theme at the heart of the forty films, from 20 different nationalities, screened during this edition will focus on the land-sea link , comments Sonia Lassaigne, communication officer for the festival. Throughout the week, screenings and meetings will be devoted to this question. Filmmakers, scientists, fishermen and the public will be invited to reflect on how the land damages the sea.”

Jacques Chérel, the president of the festival, published a column addressing the crisis situation that the profession is experiencing and the need for the latter "to regain the confidence of society" , in order to undertake projects related to a new vision of the Peach. It is, underlines Jacques Chérel, “more than urgent that the public authorities take their responsibility so that fishing continues to energize the activity of the coasts, by providing food and representing a whole culture of the link with the sea. Fishermen, sea and food, these are the essentials for tomorrow.

On the program in particular, the adaptation of the book by Catherine Poulain, Le Grand marin , or even La Guerre du Poisson, a battle in European waters, by Philippe Lespinasse around industrial fishing. But also meetings, in particular with young people from maritime high schools in Brittany and Nantes on the future of the profession.

For the second consecutive year, the festival will be launched from Groix, on Sunday March 19, for a series of stops in Morbihan, which will take it to Lorient, on Thursday March 23, for screenings of films from the official selection. . The jury will award its prizes on Sunday, March 26.
