Marine Tech Expo 21 June 2018 - TAKING A DEEPER LOOK AT MARINE SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY
Plymouth is hosting its second Marine Tech Expo, designed to showcase the city’s marine credentials across the world in the run up to the Mayflower 400 celebrations in 2020. The event will bring together decision makers involved in the latest marine innovations in blue technology under one roof at Plymouth University, June 21 - 22, 2018.
After the success of the first Marine Tech Expo in 2016, this event will focus on autonomous marine platforms, their applications, cyber security and utilisation of data, systems and sensors. The Expo will showcase businesses, innovation and research from Plymouth and the wider South Coast Marine Cluster geography, alongside national and international contributions, to ensure an inspiring line up of experts and contributors.
Plymouth and the South Coast Marine Cluster has a history of developing world leading autonomous platforms and systems and it has been stated that autonomous and robotic vehicles are the future of marine science. The presentations will allow a holistic viewpoint to be considered across all aspects of marine engineering, science and technology and their applications within autonomous platforms and systems.
As well as subject specific presentations, delegates will be able to listen to keynote speakers outlining UK government strategic priorities, international perspectives on maritime clusters and the launch of an autonomous vehicle test range in Plymouth; one of the few ranges where it is anticipated autonomous underwater, surface and air vehicles can operate together.
A Question Time event will also take place with a panel and audience participation looking at autonomous platforms and systems and their impact on workforce and skills, technology and the physical impact on ocean landscape.
The event aims to increase the number and scale of Blue Tech businesses in the city, the South West and the South Coast and to support marine businesses to innovate, create a competitive edge and ultimately grow; creating high value knowledge-based jobs.
