Fishing UK - The Big Picture from Seafish.

This month sees the release of the new Seafish Big Picture. Formerly known as the UK Industry Dashboard, the Big Picture aims to give an overview of the main issues impacting the industry via infographics, graphs and maps, and includes contributions from a variety of experts from all across Seafish.
The Big Picture is for everyone - from those who know nothing about the fishing industry but want a quick and convenient way to learn about some of the major issues to dedicated industry experts who need a way of communicating the answers to big questions like 'what's happening in the seafood industry right now?'. In particular it aims to help those with a specific interest or knowledge base better understand how their work fits in with the larger seafood value chain. It's the overview that up until now has been missing.
The Big Picture is jammed with stories both positive and negative. There are reasons for optimism with increased landings by the UK fleet, North Sea Cod being certified as sustainable by the Marine Stewardship Council, and the first twelve month period with no fishing related fatalities recorded. However, there are still many challenges facing the industry and these will form the basis of Seafish's next Corporate Plan. Importantly, the Big Picture shows how connected these challenges are.
This year also sees the launch of a new interactive PDF to sit alongside the printed dashboard. In the PDF you're able to delve deeper into each of our slides and read a Seafish Expert explain what's happening in the slide in their own words. In addition to this, each slide has a number of useful links that will allow the reader to fully explore each of the topics.
The Big Picture is available as an A1 poster and as a PDF download. You can download it here. If you'd like to request a printed copy, learn more or give feedback to help us improve future editions then please contact steven.lawrence@seafish.co.uk.
