Falmouth MP Sarah Newton sees seense and supports full cover operations at Falmouth Coastguard.

Having done what every MP needs to do, and read the consultation document on the reform of the Coastguard Service, Falmouth MP Sarah Newton has called for the operations centre at Falmouth to maintain cover 24/7 and to continue its overseas co-ordination work. After reading the document, MP Sarah discovered that the team who put the report together had not even visited Falmouth

The centre plays a unique role in the international scene and is often the first point of contact for vessels in distress in the more remote seas around the planet. It has built a reputation that means vessels around the seven seas have come to rely on its expertise and knowledge in the co-ordination of rescues at great distance.

Quite right - and it has all sorts of other international roles as well. Clearly it should be the main contender for becoming the new "South MOC" - the Solent facility is just a plan!

More thoughts and detailed information at my Sandtreader blog. There's also a Facebook campaign.

BTW, I've made a couple of comments on Sarah Newton's blog about this but they have disappeared into the ether!

Let's hope that common sense prevails, they see sense and re-locate to create a new South MOC as suggested!
