Newlyn Fish Festival programme 2013

This years Newlyn Fish Festival programme is hot off the press!

Christopher Mockridge does his bit to save our fishing communities!

The first of a series of web clips from a final year student at falmouth studying journalism doing his bit to save our fishing communities!

Hey Britain wake up! We've got brilliant British Fish just beyond the harbour wall. Sponsor me to support the British fleet - http://www.sponsume.com/project/briti

Six Webclips for Youtube explaining British commercial fish to people who haven't a clue. Which, if we're honest, is nearly everyone.

I recently produced a documentary called Trawler Men's Lives for BBC local radio, you can listen to clips here, instead of clarifying the fishing industry, it simply revealed the contradictory regulations and red tape that fishermen face.

For the final project of my degree (Masters in Broadcast Journalism at Falmouth University) I want to focus on the British fishing industry, which to most people seems like something that doesn't concern them. Which is a shame, because fishing nets the UK (sorry) one and a half billion pound worth of exports each year. Which is also a shame, because we sell most of what we catch in British waters, rather than eating it ourselves. Conversely, we import most of what we eat...

There's loads about the way we regulate fishing that makes sense, nobody wants to run out of fish - least of all fishermen - but, while stocks are returning the rules remain unchanged. The challenge of disguards at sea needs to be explained, because it looks like insanity.

I really want to make media content for web and radio to help redress the balance and support real British food. If you LOVE fish and you want to support the British fleet, please consider sponsoring me!

Newlyn's Champagne London Launch

Mark Wilkinson's latest furniture style, Newlyn, was launched in the Holland Park showroom in a buzz of excitement and a champagne party atmosphere. Interior designers, international artists, lifestyle aficionados and a contingent of London's finest were treated to a presentation by Mark of his inspirations and the design process for the beautiful Newlyn kitchen packed full of the latest equipment wizardry.

Having explained the influences of artists in 'The Newlyn School' in Cornwall and how this ignited an ember in his imagination, he enthused how this interpreted into his contemporary thoughts on linear design, resulting in his latest creation. Guests were then invited to look at the superb quality of the British craftsmanship, try the 'touch to open' cupboards and explore the innovative drinks centre and other up- to- the- minute kitchen devices. The Newlyn design received immediate acclaim as guests tried out the cleverly channelled handle recesses and marvelled at the sophisticated look of the chromed insets

In keeping with the theme of Newlyn, Paul Gayler, Executive Chef at London's 5 Star luxury hotel, The Lanesborough, gave a live cookery demonstration 'par excellence' in the actual Newlyn kitchen. With consummate ease he produced superb fish dishes using the freshest of ingredients specially sent from Newlyn in Cornwall, the same day. A tasting followed each recipe demonstration finishing with 'Clotted cream bread and butter pudding with sloe gin plums' which delighted an appreciative audience.
