Small boats, big seas.

With gale warnings giving 10s and 11s for Plymnouth, Sole, Lundy and Fastnet...

it's no wonder to see a dozen French trawlers east side of the Lizard, a small number are dodging out of the weather close to the land off the Helford while a few hardy types continue fishing right along the six mile limit...

further out to sea, the small coaster Arklow Ranger is battling into huge seas off the Lizard and has been reduced to making around 2knots ever since she cleared the Lizard in the early ours of this morning, she has altered course to make the run north around Land's End more comfortable as the wind hopefully eases...

though at the moment the new Cefas Wavenet weather service webpage is showing 10 and 11 meter high waves right where she is headed!

the weather is so bad that the Sanskip Endeavour has been forced to turn round and seek shelter in Mount's Bay - the skipper having decided that rounding Land's End would be too dangerous for her.

Plenty of wind through the night as the UK gets hit by snow its gales and heavy rain over Cornwall

The wind graph from the Sevenstones lightship shows the wind steadily increasing up to nearly 40 knots at 0100 hours...

as a result, the Breton and French boats working around Land's End leave some interesting tracks on the AIS. It looks like the Effera has been towing south west for the best part of the last twenty four hours.

Anglian Prince sold and off to Canadian waters.

Sister ship Anglian Princess has been on contract to the MCA as an Emergency Towing Vessel and stationed in Mount's Bay untill recently.
At 1000 hours this morning the Herakles had entered the Med through the Straits of Gibralter.

If you wondered where the Anglain Prince had gone - now we know.  Britain’s last traditional salvage tug, the Anglian Prince has been sold for further service with Rederi AB Nestor of Pitea, Sweden, and managers Marine Carrier AB.  The tug left Hull docks in the UK on 14 June bearing the new name Herakles and flying the Maltese flag. It is understood that the tug was bound for Montreal and its first assignment for its new owners.
