You're fried! Final #FishyFriday in January

Tom was keeping an eye on things this #FishyFriday morning as the sun glimpsed through a chink in the heavily overcast skies over Mounts Bay...

and what better way to start the day than a few boxes of stunning tub gurnards...

sand soles...

and net caught pollack

with gills that colour you know just how fresh the fish are...

from one of the netting fleet that specialises in targeting these members of the cod family...

along with these MSC Certified hake...

as featured in the latest episode of the Apprentice that aired on BBC1 last night - when head auctioneer Ian drove a hard bargain for some of the contestants on the 'Diverse' team...

whose other team members helped them on to win a challenging task that saw them show those Newquay boys a thing or two about how to catch pollack on feathers......

the unmistakable black lateral line of which fish?..

best bass of the day...

along with red mullet...

and big turbot made premium prices...

as did these big blondes...

on a relatively busy Friday market...

some stiff-as-a-board plaice...

Couch's bream...

plenty of line caught mackerel...

and some cracking monk tails...

superb squid...

and half a box of the very best mediterranean octopus...

and well over three tons of cuttles...

with a few shells to shuck for someone...

an almost empty harbour...

and it's time for young Mr Smart to load his morning purchases...

as the harbour begins to wake up...

under a heavy sky...

the old harbour has been in continuous use since the 12th Century.
