Newlyn works 24/7/365 and when it comes to sardines they are landed mostly in the middle of the night, the gfihs get fresh seawater added...

some are destined for the auction...

while the bulk of the catch are landed into 400kg tubs that go straight ...

to the waiting transport then processor...

Days like this are what makes the hours you spend at sea very special...

and the current clement weather gives this young man the chance to don the shades while topping up the boat's fuel tank...

which he needs to do when fishing this far from Newlyn in the mighty Butts!

Monday morning in Newlyn and the octopus keep on coming!

One man and his telehoist is all it takes...

looks like a promising start to the week weather-wise...

with plenty f fish on the market landed over the weekend...

some squid too...

there's new plastics on all the market doors now...

doing a good job keeping top quailrty fish like these bass

and turbot in top condition...

there are no signs of the octopus landings diminishing though...

with 10,000 kg on the market...

sardines are now back on the menu too...

as crew put their fish away in the market...

Another busy week in Newlyn.

During the week, more steel sections arrived on the Resource Centre build site...

and the uprights were all put in place...

before the roof sections arrived...

the lower girders...

were added...

and the roof trusses sorted...

and added to the first two roof sections...

always good to see a classic boat in the harbour...

and the UK's largest scalloper frpm Scotland...

as work to replace a dozen quay fenders gets underway...

the port welcomes the return of the Cornishman from her engine work in Holland, the very same week the MAIB report into the fatal incident which resulted in the death of one of the crew was published.

 

It's a sizzling start to the 2025 Cornish sardine season!

The first of this year's Cornish sardines have been swung ashore! The Lyonesse and the newest boat in the fleet, Inter-Nos landed well over 10 tons between them. First to pump fish aboard at just gone 10pm last night was the Inter-Nos, followed a few hours later by fellow fleet member, Lyonesse, skipper Tom Lambourn - seen here craning some of his catch ashore.
