Monday's market majors in monk

Another UFO in Newlyn...

as Monday's market bursts into life...

these John Dory have the Billy Rowney's name on them...

while the |Cornishman touched on some big plaice...

and a good run of monk...

these shining inshore bass made good money...

on a day when there are grey gurnards...

and red gurnards...

huge monk tails...

heads up!...

but which fish?...

are these...

sky-gazing...

 beasts giving the eye?...

Newlyn now has its very own white house...

time to take on fuel...

for the big beamers.

A day at the races

What strange fish are swimming inside Penzance Harbour...

maybe a trophy laden table and the sweatshirt are a clue...

as a dozen powerboats race round a buoyed course...

for a flurry of prizes, it seems everyone is a winner...

once the servicing has been carried out like re-fueling...

the boats are accurate models...

of the full size powerboats found on the international race circuit...

with a safety boat in attendance to deal with capsized boats...

as the boats speed round the course...

at over 60 mph...

meanwhile, a chance to get some up-to-date pictures of the Karina Olsen...

in the wet dock...

proudly showing off her heavily built bow...

designed to take the full force of seas pounding her stem when anchored in the shallow waters of the North Sea...

also in the dock is the netter Ajax, now waiting for her replacement to arrive form Scotland early next week when the two boats will come alongside and all the fishing gear taken off to their new home...

over in Newlyn the Algrie waits for ice...

two old timers soak up the afternoon sun...

and there's plenty of work yet to be done on one of the sardine ring nets stretched out on the quay...

two late season scallopers form Brixham have enjoyed a weekend in the port...

now it's time to scrub those decks...

with high-water in the afternoon on a spring tide plenty of anglers, young and old get to try their hand at depleting the fish stocks in the Bay...

even the gulls enjoy a free meal as the decks are washed down prior to entering the port.

#FishyFriday is here in Newlyn!

Monk and megrims still being landed a-plenty by the beamers...

and a few Dovers courtesy of the Sapphire II...

there's even the odd box of real quality like these monk cheeks and Dory - and a giant weaver...

to go with his big 6+ kilo hake...

from the Ajax's last trip working from Newlyn...

next time the buyers see her name the fish will have been caught by the new boat...

its that time of year again when the boats get in the black...

cuttles!...

ready to sell...

the Sapphire's decks have been scrubbed clean...

while on the Algrie the gear is being stowed away.
