Don's end of year trip.

Skipper Don Liddicoat and the boys make the Filadelfia ready for the next trip after landing on the last market day of 2010 - a good one for them!

By the way Don, scallies were lovely!!

Facebook campaign to see Falmouth become the new MOC begins!

Head on over to Facebook and show your support for Falmouth Coastguard Centre - apart from maintaining cover 24/7 Falmouth should now be looking to become the new centre for training and continuing as Southern MOC - the battle starts here!

Last market before Christmas.

Making her first, and last trip, since catching fire at sea, The Trevesssa IV was the last landing on the market.......
along with the Filadelfia with a few dogfish set to go for bait for the crabbing fleet......
skipper Don is all set for the break, with plans to be one of the first boats to land in the New Year......
in the meantime its time to stow the gear......
and get washed down ready to go.........
temperatures are still hovering around freezing even in the far flung corner of West Penwith.......
fish supplies are still arriving from all parts of the country for local distribution......
more icy signs of the low temperature........
with Royden busy clearing away gear from the lorry park.......
at the moment the temperature is probably greater inside the chilled transport!.......
this year's lifeboat shout league goes to the Ivan Ellen........
though it looks like the weather will continue with a calm patch until Boxing Day according to the forecast......
a reminder of the complex issues surrounding conservation and control of the fishing effort shines on......
an alternative to turkey sandwiches to try from the new fish cook book you get for Christmas......
anyone wanting to get in to the industry needs all of these.....
a chance to buy a harbourside property has come up.

Falmouth MP Sarah Newton sees seense and supports full cover operations at Falmouth Coastguard.

Having done what every MP needs to do, and read the consultation document on the reform of the Coastguard Service, Falmouth MP Sarah Newton has called for the operations centre at Falmouth to maintain cover 24/7 and to continue its overseas co-ordination work. After reading the document, MP Sarah discovered that the team who put the report together had not even visited Falmouth

The centre plays a unique role in the international scene and is often the first point of contact for vessels in distress in the more remote seas around the planet. It has built a reputation that means vessels around the seven seas have come to rely on its expertise and knowledge in the co-ordination of rescues at great distance.

Masses of maginficant monk make Monday's moonlit market.

Tomorrow morning's moon will he the first full eclipse coinciding with the winter solstice marking the shortest day, or longest night, since 1638.......
after BBC1's Saturday Kitchen saw Nathan Outlaw use monk for a Christmas dish with a difference, these quality monk tails will make good money on the final week of 2010.......
which should give the big beamer fleet like the Cornishman grossings just short of £1 million pounds for the year.......
auctioneer Ian does his best to get the buyers to pay top price for the 40 tons of fish from seven boats on the market......
of which a bumper harvest of black gold, 37 400 kilo tubs ready for the sale.......
these big tub gurnards would make any fishmonger's display look very seasonal.......
while the brill will be a favourite restaurant dish.......
 time is of the essence........
as the last few days of market trading are marked off on the calendar......
and there's yet more monk on offer.......
the crabbing fleet are affected by a lack-lustre price for brown crab, normally a welcome boost to earnings at this time of year.......
for those in need of more spiritual entertainment there are plenty of concerts taking place around Newlyn and beyond......
with everyone doing their bit for the harbour lights......
as the sun creeps into the sky......
Santa's grottos has been deserted after a very successful evening in the Mission on Friday night......
the gulls seem to be heading off in search of breakfast at sea for a change......
even the harbour offices are glowing.......
 along with the cafe........
with those lucky enough to escape the snow 'up country', may choosing to arrive by train take the strain off the road.
