Archive cine film from 1960s Newlyn harbour.

It is incredibly valuable when people choose to pass on historical information, relics, and particularly photographic material to the Newlyn Archive. They have built up a substantial collection over the years and are currently cataloguing everything they hold to ensure it is properly recorded. These days, written material, old photographs, and even vintage cine film can be easily digitised. This modern approach not only means the collection is preserved safely for the future, but it also allows for efficient, quick searches when researching local history.

A brilliant example of this preservation in action is this old cine film from 1960 that was successfully digitised. Seeing the area's past brought to life in this way shows exactly why handing over these items makes such a difference.

With such material, any faces that can be given names are a real bonus - who do you recognise?

Anyone holding onto bits of local history tucked away in the loft might want to consider sharing them with the collection. The Newlyn Archive website can be found here: https://newlynarchive.org.uk/, where they explain more about their ongoing work to store and preserve the area's heritage.
