Amazing opportunity! - The The Annual Search for New Ideas in Commercial Fishing

The competition is open to anyone in any fishing sector!

Fisheries Innovation Scotland (FIS) is launching the first of what will become annual Fisheries Innovation Award Competitions. It is open to anyone, and is free to enter.

For 2017, FIS is looking for new ideas that will increase the profitability of the sector through:

  • Innovation in reducing the cost of catching fish/shellfish
  • Innovation in improving the quality/value of the catch

Entrants can choose either category, and winners in both categories will be eligible for an Award and a prize:

First - £15,000
Second - £10,000
Third - £5,000

It is possible that FIS could take forward one or more of the winning ideas into full research or development projects, providing entrants with the added satisfaction of knowing that their ideas might be more widely taken up within the industry.

The Closing Date for entries is 31st October 2017

General Guidance and Rules (For full details head to the full page here)

The competition is open to any individuals or organisations

The Competition Entry Form must be submitted electronically by email attachment to FIS

The entry may be as detailed as entrants wish. The Competition Entry Form provides boxes which should be completed, but these can be expanded to take additional information

FIS does not anticipate that entrants will have to conduct costly and extensive new trials or experiments to support their entry. On the other hand, as much evidence as possible to support the likely practicality of the innovative idea would be welcomed by FIS, and will count in the assessment of the entry.
Supporting evidence can be in the form of written text, references (academic or grey literature), drawings and diagrams, photographs, and video or audio clips

Entrants will be entitled to retain any intellectual property rights that might attach to the entry, and winners will be expected to attend an Award Ceremony in order to collect their Awards and prizes, and must be prepared to give press and other media interviews, as required

The Award Ceremony will take place at the Annual Scottish Fishing Conference in St Andrews on 9th and 10th of July 2018
