Penlee lifeboat in action twice in 24 hours!

Two big trips in less than 24 hours for the Penlee lifeboat Ivan Ellen and the inshore boat Paul Alexander!

Penlee’s volunteer crew were called into action again in the early hours of Sunday morning when both boats were launched. Penlee’s volunteer crew were called into action again in the early hours of Sunday morning when both boats were launched. The pagers first went off at 1:15 when the Coastguard requested the launch of the inshore lifeboat Paul Alexander as the boat was leaving; there was a request to launch the all-weather lifeboat Ivan Ellen with boats being tasked to search for a missing vulnerable person.

Both boats then conducted a shoreline search between Newlyn and Mousehole, with the Paul Alexander staying close to the shore and at one stage searching Mousehole harbour. The all-weather lifeboat was then re-tasked at approximately 0215 to a yacht with engine problems ten miles south of Mousehole Island.

The inshore lifeboat with her three man crew continued the search, which included the Coastguard Cliff Rescue Teams, Police and the Police helicopter until 0300 when they were stood down, initially until first light, however the man was later found by the Police before the lifeboats were once again launched. The Ivan Ellen arrived at the casualty yacht Cadenza just before 0300 and quickly established a tow, Both boats arrived back in Newlyn harbour at 0430.
