Thank you to Paddy Mee!At Last in 2012 the Waterford Estuary fishing community comprising of Dunmore East, Cheekpoint, Passage East, Ballyhack and Duncannon are mobilising and coming together to form a FLAG Group.Job creation through enterprise development and wealth creation being the primary objective of this flag fund. Europe since 2006 has given out approx 800 million euro through Farnet and now AXIS4 to Countries like Slovenia, Poland,Scotland, etc.to replace jobs that were lost due to massively reduced fishing quotas and closure of certain fisheries i.e Wild Salmon and Eel, Sea Bass etc. Presently little of this money has come to Ireland and none to our Estuary for this initiative of Coastal Job Creation. The next real tranche of significant funds will be allocated by Jan 1st 2015 in Brussels by the EU, as much as 200 million euro a year can be expected in total. I think we are the 4th or 5th longest Coastline in Europe(certainly seriously disenfranchised due to the harsh quota reductions) We should by any stretch of the imagination be in, for a fair share of this, as we have had little or none of this so far.The past and present system has not produced opportunity to our Coastal people to replace lost local wages and incomes. Now we need to prepare a practical project plan, costed and a COST BENEFIT ANALYSIS done. This will take nine to twelve months to get ready and present to Government and Brussels. Can Jobs be created. YES and it has to happen. WE have:1) Raw Material Fish2)Buildings, purpose built 3)Know how in the area.Waterford Estuary FLAG

Really positive news coming from Brussels, as MEPs vote on EU fisheries reform. Fish4Ever
It's been 2 years since Fish Fight released its viral video about discards and started the campaign to end this crazy waste of fish. With your help they've had a huge impact in Brussels. Most significantly, Europe's fisheries ministers agreed in June 2012 that discards of important species like cod and haddock should end. But that's not the end of the road...The future of the CFP is now in the hands of the European Parliament, made up of the MEPs we all elect to represent us in Europe. And over the next few months they will be voting on whether or not to end discards. The Anchor Bar
