Refurbishments and change wherever you look in and around Newlyn.

alongside an accurate Lat and Long reading taken from Greenwich...

the now shut and re-purposed as a dance school RNMDSF mission building reflected in this original pencil work by ex-fisherman Robert Jones from 1985 was open and catering for local and visiting fishermen, these days, despite there being upwards of 80 foreign crew based in the port most have nowhere to relax away from their boats which are home for the duration of their contracts...

high tide means new nets get to go aboard the Charisma of Ladram under the watchful eye of skipper Alan...

Spirited Lady III is about to leave the iceworks berth to allow the Millenia to take ice...

next year the wheelhouse will be stripped and refitted with two 55" screens capable of displaying up to eight inputs...

ships father or is it grandfather, barely recognisable in his over-size shirt, still keeps his hand in keeping the boat at sea...

while Sid, on the Karen of Ladram...

who took this shot, dropped off some fresh hake to Tom on a jet-ski for his on-board chef to cook for supper and his crew got to enjoy the very same sea-going experiences as those aboard...

the luxury yacht as a perk of the job...

even the Keriolet had a Deck Jacuzzi, and that was back in the 80s!..

with a tidal coefficient never dropping below 60 for the entire neap the netting fleet are now back in port...

helping to fill Friday's market with a wide variety of top quality fish...

like monk cheeks...

John Dory...

MSC hake...

the odd big blue shark...

no doubt Richard at the new harbour-side restaurant Argoe will be getting fresh supplies of hake throats for his typically Spanish inspired coastal cuisine...

just look at how bright the eyes are on these fish - a sure sign they are totally fresh...

not often you see a beam trawler land this many greater weavers...

cracking tub gurnard Port Isaac bound...

there's Dover soles...

sand soles...

and lemon soles...

line caught bass...

a few mackerel at nearly the price of gold...

a few kilos of sardines landed for fresh...

and some cracking whiting...

though the day is looking a little cloudy...

a mouth-watering job...

look out, the dredger is on its way to Newlyn...

Spirited Lady III is back from her galley refit with the Weymouth registered scalloper, Zaranathax....

these aluminium enclosures on the stern of the netter are filled, or emptied of water in order to keep the Annie May on an even keel dependent on whether she has all her nets on board or not...

these three have seen better days...

it's all gone very dark on the hull of the St Georges...

Twilight III is up on the slip...

visiting steel hulled classic sail training vessel De Gallant...

half, well two-thirds of a job...

deep-water crayfish...

that look like they may well have inspired the beasts from the movie Predator...

when seen up close...

back in the tank...

flying the flag...

on board De Gallant.
