Long live the Mission in Newlyn!

After several months hard work the focal point for Mission activity in Newlyn is about to 'Go Live!'

Although the Mission building is under new ownership several of the original rooms have been retained for exclusive RNMDSF use - namely the Fishermen's Memorial Room and office space for superintendent Keith Dixon and Julian Waring to use as an administrative base. To celebrate this significant step forward the Mission team are holding a re-dedication service in St Peter's Church just down the road on Sunday the 1st of November - all are welcome and bring a friend or two!

Shellfish! - straight from the deck!

Your Seafood Week fishing news stories straight from the deck! - here's North Cornwall shellfisherman Ian Jepson aboard his boat the Three Jays extolling the virtues of the crab and lobster he fishes for everyday.

Seafish's sister website FishistheDish has recipes galore for fresh crab - check them out here and try some today!

Mid week and all is quiet on the market.

It was basically a game of  'spot the fish' this morning with only a handful of inshore boats including the mackerel men making any landings...

apart for the boys on the Ajax putting their fish in the fridge on the market...

but they were too late to catch the market this morning as the fish woiuld still need to be graded, weighed and boxed for auction...

a night against the quay for the crabber Harriet Eve.

Race day at Falmouth Oyster Festival 2015.

Click on the image to enjoy a selection of photos from the final day of this year's Falmouth Oyster Festival. More @FalOysterFest.

For anyone with a real passion for keeping this tradition alive there is a chance to buy a share or even own outright one of these classic sailing workboats!

Endeavour

Identified by the plain white topsail and the number 6.

To the Manacles and back for a fishing trip on Endeavour, Circa1958

After 32 years I would like to sell Endeavour. I have had some interest but that is out of port. In an effort to keep her in the port I would be grateful to hear from interested parties who would consider forming a syndicate. She has had considerable work carried out over the last few years including, new stem, transom, keel bolts and 60 plus fastenings. She is one of the prettiest boats afloat with a fine turn of speed and needs to be used much more than I have over the last few years.

If interested parties could contact me by email (cornubiafarm@aol.com) or on 07836359621 I would be very grateful.

Margaret makes a habit of a Monday morning.

Three beam trawlers...

including the latest to join the fleet, the Margaret of Ladram landed fish over the weekend...

and the Twilight which, for a beam trawler, put ashore a big shot of John Dory, a fish not normally caught in such quantities by a boat using a trawl that only has the headrope a few feet from the sea bed...

long ling...

and there are plenty of bass to be had this morning...

as well as a good run of gurnards...

and even a big tub...

gilt nose bream...

over two hundred boxes of hake from the netters like the Ajax...

a smattering of mackerel from the handliners...

the odd red fish...

and a p;air of bull huss...

along with some late morning landings of sardines...

ready to be shipped away instantly...

the Margaret at rest.
