Tiz a mizzly Monday morning here in Newlyn.

Mark and his crew hit a purple Dory patch with their new rig...

while the MSC accredited hake netter Britannia V ...

filled the western end of the market with a good shot of hake...

and a big shot of ray should keep the local restaurants happy this week...

while the merchants in the market for turbot had 20 boxes to fight over...

some of Britannia's  hake keeping an eye on things...

heads or tails? - name this fish

whoever said it was a slower pace of life in the far west of Cornwall obviously;y hasn't been on the fish market at 6 am...

this fish will look stunning when served whole...

as will these reddest of red gurnards...

no chance of the overnight rain dampening spirits...

on the deck of the Cornishman there is plenty of jobs in store for the crew today...

while the marina leisure berths are full with passing trade...

back in port, Mr Gillespie has the huge scalloper Albion looking all ship-shape and Bristol fashion...

as does the beam trawler Karen...

the traditional look of the Britannia V, fit for a picture-postcard...

as yet more paint is applied to the new sardine boat...

Intuition and astern, Emma Louisetwo of the ports biggest crabber all set to land...

good to see the crab and lobster from boats in the Rowse fleet being served by local pubs like the Fountain Tavern in Penzance.

Livecasting from Brixham Trawler Race 2015

Come and enjoy Brixham Trawler Race live form the deck of a competitor!

Huge diesel engine horses will power 15 Brixham trawlers and a huge visiting Dutch beam trawler round two laps of the race course starting around 10 am.

Saturday and the jobs to do are never far away.

Loading the Cornishman with new gear...

while the Billy Rowney gets new warps...

on the way in...

enough to keep the guts busy all day...

nylon twine is spliced into the lay of the wire...

every twenty five fathoms a different number of marks so that the man on the winch knows how much warp has been paid out...

while the boys on the Olivia Belle have at least days work ahead of them mending the trawl...

trawler and netter - just two examples of the modern fleet that works from Newlyn...

the Olivia Belle from Bideford...

and Newlyn's own Stelissa...

while the new fleet colours stand out on the Stevenson fleet...

their shore staff are kept busy on a derrick repair...

not quite Banksy...

time for a quick paint job on the sardine boat Mayflower...

showing off her bulbous front end, no sign of any other painters though......

work is about to begin...

on making good the Jubilee Pool...

its that time of year when the yachts turn up in numbers...

and the paint brushes are never still, not the normal place for single yellow lines though...

with a steady hand and a good supply of masking tape to make life easier...

last of the big beam trawlers to grace the dry dock for a while.

#FishyFriday sees Penwith College serving the first MSC Cornish Hake!

Britannia V skipper Matthew and crew are the latest boat to land their first trip of MSC Cornish hake on the market today...

Once an MSC Chain of Custody has been created for Penwith College's training restaurant they will be able to serve customers with accredited fish from the local fleet of netters.  In the meantime, chefs-to-be working away in Penwith College's training kitchen have cooked up this delicious dish of hake, saffron ailoi, new potatoes, rocket & fennel salad as one of today's main courses.

@PenwithSenara restaurant takes booking for Tuesday to Friday lunches and Friday evenings - at an amazing £3.50 a course - you can't go wrong!

Booking a table is advised! 01736335215

Here is today's lunchtime menu - next week sees Jamie Porter from the St Moritz Hotel in Falmouth treating the restaurant to a taster menu.

Full-on fun it's #FishyFriday!
