Padstow netters pile fish in the western end of the market

early Tuesday with our yellawellies to the fore, sometimes you've just go to get in there and do the job yourself it seems!
moving in after the Charisma, also from Padstow leaves for home...

as the Berlewen, from Padstow, heaves a line ashore to take a berth at the market...
it seems Ocean Fish have joined the colourful fish wagon fraternity....
tons of pollack (the new cod) from the Charisma, which is fast becoming the preferred white fish in eco-friendly London chippy Tom's Place, seen here in 660 litre tubs....
up on the slip, the ABS is getting the hull treatment as the spring tide makes getting her 80 odd feet (she was lengthened years ago along with the Sarah Shaun) onto the slip on the neaps...
bathed in the early morning sun and mist.

This is one big crab ship!

The chain mat is looking ragged aboard the George Johannes.....
despite the early evening mist at sea the harbour is bathed in moonlight....
which plays some strange colour cast over the boats....
time to clear the deck......
high-tech gear is the order of the day in many of the fleet these daysout of the water and on the slip, the new crabber ABS looms large in the mist!

Newlyn building projects near completion

and two more almost finished....
the JTS has now lost her gearbox....
while the main remains to be removed....

Squirrel signs are busy doing what they do best but not so much call for these days in the world of vinyl adhesive signs, signwriting....
this is what has recently attracted the attention of twitchers in the harbour, a young Icelandic gull.....
and an adult in flight!

using an off-set circular saw....
and chamfer off the corners - easy!
always use a bar to roll the part finished mast....
and simple tools for the job.

Back on the slip again

The end of the new quay by the crane acts as a repair site for smaller vessels that can be lifted out easily by the hydraulic crane....
still 'in situ', the masts in waiting for the Ripple......
visitors are having to wait here at the foot of Trewarveneth Street while road works are completed...
as topsides of the ABS begin to take shape....
and back up on the slip the Cathryn has lost her wheelhouse roof, replacement timbers sit on the horses.

Another one bites the dust

Recently removed from the UK register of fishing vessels, Stevie Leach's Wayfarer now boasts only her name and not port registry letters and numbers....

not so the Rowse crabbers who wait patiently on the opposite side of the quay to their new fleet member nearing completion....who is now having the starboard side panels of the shelterdeck fitted.
