Penlee Quarry sees some earthmoving equipment activity for the first time in ages - but not because work has started on the new Marina!
Work has started on the quarry slopes - mainly it seems to comply with a number of health and safety issues - the contractors would love to have photographs (or paintings) of roadside quarry buildings from before the 1920s that show the original granite stone workings, like the chutes used to load horse carts. These could greatly assisst in helping to preserve any buildings that are currently buried under earth along the roadside.
Sunday evening saw low cloud completely envelope the port.
The new marina pontoons now provides excellent angling facilities! Here, Lofty and boys from Cosalt reel in a few grey mullet for supper.
Into the mist, Stefan's 'Pride of Cornwall' makes her way out to the Western shore chasing another shoal of Cornish Sardines.
Christmas is coming - and so are the Nelwyn Harbour Christmas lights - volunteers are always welcome - a good excuse to pop into the Fisherman's Arms up by the slip where you will be directed to the organisers while you sample some Hick's Special Draught (HSD) - or see here for more info.

Poor weather keeps the fleet in port.
In the continuing poor weather the Cap Frehel, a stern trawler from the predominantly crabbing port of Morlaix, turns away from the gaps as there isn't enough water to enter.
Meanwhile the Dom Bosco is about to leave for sea trials and a possible maiden voyage, despite the fresh breeze, not much stops the pot boys it seems!

Local inspiration
"Get down on your knees and prayeya", Bill begins the long task of stitching a new trawl together on the Cornishman.
PZ476, Lisa Jacqueline gets a clean hull on the slip.
Down the road near the classic Art Deco swimming pool the latest art gallery puts on a display; many of the works reflect local seascapes. The gallery's name is inspired by the town's port registry letters PZ Gallery.

Not a breath!
Look carefully to the left of the angler and you will see that he has some unusual company!
The harbour workboat, 'Trewidden' , often seen with harbour master Andrew Munson at the helm, is currently undergoing repairs on the new quay.
Crew on the Urk registered 'Jacoba' are busy splicing eyes into warps.
As the sun went down there was not a breath of wind across the harbour - looking along the new pontoon berths to the right.

A rare Irish visitor
The 24.01m seiner Roise Catriona, T100 owned by Damien Turner Fisheries in Droum Castletownbeare, Ireland pays a visit to Newlyn in advance of the poor forecast.
Good to see she has undergone some 'plastic surgery' and had a 'nose job'!
Meanwhile the Lisa Jaqueline, PZ476 rests in tier on the North Quay.
