Star ship Enterprise - Biggest beam trawler yet arrives in Newlyn.

Sporting new company colours...

the Enterprise PZ99 has joined the OceanFish fleet in Newlyn...

and at 42 meters and 471 tons she is by far the biggest boat in the port - dwarfing the Billy Rowney astern of her, a mere 31 metres and 179 tons...

under the whaleback the crew will be able to sort, wash and gut fish in comfort

after it is fed from the two fish pounds that are only lowered when the vessel is fishing...

so that they don't interfere with the beam trawls when they are taken on board...

each of the trawls is reckoned to cost around £60,000 so skipper Bill Worth won't be doing what Michael Hosking did on the port's largest beam trawler, Silver Harvester many years ago...

engineer Tom looks skywards to the wheelhouse in an attempt to find out how many more gallons of diesel fuel are needed, with a 1,000hp main and two 500hp auxiliary engines the chances are there's a few more gallons to come before her tanks are full...

with a draft over 5m the Enterprise like the other new boat Crystal Sea are both severely restricted in where they can manoeuvre and berth in the harbour- though there are some significant plans in the pipeline to rectify that situation...

the wheelhouse looks comfortable enough...

flying the flag for the engine manufacturers ABC...

no more greasing blocks the hard way - all the key pieces of running gear are fed grease remotely...

enterprise by name...

enterprising by nature...

that's a whole lot of whaleback for the local gull population to decorate too...
