Newlyn in the best light.

Newlyn's historic Old Harbour, last re-built in the 14th century...

is being given a complete makeover by a team from Rebuild South West...

removing years of weed growth and rubble...

included in the makeover is a complete refurbishment of the Fishermen's rest...

and a new home for the anchor recently removed from the Mary Williams pier...

Old Harbour floral tribute...

free of weeds and looking spruce...

reveal one of several sets of stone steps that have supported fishermen for centuries since a harbour rebuild was recorded in 1435...

if these stones could talk...

they would no doubt fill volumes of historical tomes...

and, hopefully, current plans to create a heritage base for the fleet of local luggers and fishing related activities...

now tat the harbour has been gifted such support...

which will see this incredibly historic maritime asset draw further support from the community at large...

which sees yet another visiting Belgian beam trawler making use of the harbour to overland her fish while trawling for early season Dover soles in the Bristol Channel...

Sid Porter's Karen of Ladram is up on the slip...

for work on her hull replacing anodes...

and preparing the hull...

for a fresh coat of anti-fouling...

work on the Galilee continues though there are no signs that visibility from the wheelhouse has been improved...

orange seems to be the new blue as a choice of hull colour...

though the RNLI makes use of both for all their vessels...

the Filadelfia is nearing completion...

early Wednesday morning sees the harbour bathed in the kind of light that continues to draw artists to the far south west of Cornwall...

while harbour staff like young Mr Cripps help empty the market of auctioned fish...

and merchants box up their lots...

as the morning's fish sales...

head for retailers and restaurants up and down the company...

much to the delight of merchants like young Mr Smart...

now needing to speed back to the office...

along with the other merchants and buyers...

under a spectacular spreading dawn...

that confirms Newlyn's place amongst the best places in the UK to enjoy such spectacles...

in addition to playing host to England's biggest best fish market...

so ably supported by such diversity...

the Karen of Ladram...

and fleet of punts...

enjoy a few moments of calm...

as dawn spreads across the Old Harbour...

and beyond...

work continues apace on the new Penlee Lifeboat centre...

inshore nets...

are worked by many of the harbour's fleet of punts...

along with lines used to fish with bass lures...

the local gig economy...

for all those concerned, there the next meeting of the Newlyn Fishermen's Forum is this Friday at 10am in the SCT Training Hub...

sun's up at last...

as the fuel tankers get on the road...

and the ice made ready...

some of the beam trawl fleet are about to sail...

past the anchored cargo ship Adastar...

great harbour divers these guys...

there's all kinds of support for members of the fishing industry...

covering all kinds of issues...

along with more practical needs like hydraulic pot haulers...

or seek alternative forms of local support...

seems Spring is sprung...

as harbour life continues.
