Fishing boats landing in Newlyn - 1993



Big thank you to Colin Cotterell for posting this video of the port from 1993 when their were many more net and trawl boats than there are today. In the following few years many of the boats in this video were added to the government's decommissioning scheme and scrapped as a way of meeting the EU targets for reducing fishing capacity in the UK.  It might be worth noting that on a good day the price for hake in 1993 was about the same as the average price today - who said paying for quality fish like hake isn't value for money?
