Newly appointed members the new Newlyn Harbour Commission have taken guidance from the Good Governance Guide to heart - tomorrow's NHPC meeting is throwing its doors open to the public. Any harbour user or interested party can attend the meeting - held at The Centre, St Peter's Hill - and the first 15 minutes of the meeting will provide a forum for ideas and comments from an open session - after which memebers of the public are welcome to listen - but not take part in - the rest of the proceedings. The meeting is due to start at 10am.
One major difference to this board under the new constitution is that members have been elected on merit to represent all harbour users and not specific areas as in the past - for instance, there are no longer representatives of the boat owning or fish merchant sectors - instead, individual members may have been selected with a particular skillset, commercial, financial or industrial knowledge that together with the other board members provide a broad church from within which decisions on the future of the port may be made.
In good time, the minutes of these meetings will be made public.
