Monday, July 27th

Based on the data from Average_Price_Overview_1 - 2026-07-27th.xls, the auction opened the week with strong pricing and solid landings.

  • Volume: 10,318.26 kg

  • Value: £87,542.80

  • Average Price: £8.48 per kg

  • Highlights: The first day of the week secured the highest average price per kilogram. The market volume was primarily driven by MSC Hake, Monk or Anglers, and Spurdog.

Tuesday, July 28th

Data from Average_Price_Overview_1 - 2026-07-28th.xls indicates a steady day in terms of volume, though it was accompanied by a slight dip in overall market value.

  • Volume: 10,002.28 kg

  • Value: £78,010.86

  • Average Price: £7.80 per kg

  • Highlights: While the total weight remained consistent with Monday, the top species profile shifted. Pot-caught Mediterranean Octopus, John Dory, and Monk or Anglers were the dominant species by volume.

Wednesday, July 29th

The auction recorded a massive surge in activity mid-week, as detailed in Average_Price_Overview_1 - 2026-07-29th.xls.

  • Volume: 27,914.87 kg

  • Value: £154,721.92

  • Average Price: £5.54 per kg

  • Highlights: Landings nearly tripled compared to the previous days. This large influx—primarily featuring MSC Hake, Mediterranean Octopus, and Gurnard and Latchet—brought the overall average price down to the lowest point of the week.

Thursday, July 30th

According to Average_Price_Overview_1 - 2026-07-30th.xls, the market experienced a sharp contraction in volume but a strong recovery in market prices.

  • Volume: 6,974.51 kg

  • Value: £58,354.92

  • Average Price: £8.37 per kg

  • Highlights: Despite being the quietest day of the week for landings, the reduced supply helped push the average price back up near Monday's peak. Monk or Anglers, Mediterranean Octopus, and Mackerel led the day's totals.

Weekly Market Summary

The week's auctions processed a total volume of 55,209.92 kg, generating a combined gross value of £378,630.50. Across the four recorded days, the overall market average settled at £6.86 per kg.

The defining feature of the week's trading was the exceptional volume landed on Wednesday, which accounted for roughly half of the entire week's total weight. While this mid-week influx significantly boosted total revenue, it temporarily depressed the market average to a low of £5.54 per kg. Conversely, Monday and Thursday proved to be the most lucrative days on a per-kilogram basis, fetching £8.48 and £8.37 respectively due to lighter, more premium supplies.

Throughout the week, Monk or Anglers and pot-caught Mediterranean Octopus proved to be the most consistent staples at the auction, appearing heavily in the top volumes almost every single day.

How it should be - fresh local fish.

The best of local fish - just what you want to see on a shop sign board showing off their wares. Cornwall is lucky enough to have wet fish shops all over the county selling what they buy at auction or direct from the boats - in this instance, PyskFish from Falmouth.

from the Huers...

alongside yet more octopus, the season is not quote over it seems...

meanwhile, the Serene Dawn, Inter-Nos, Lyonesse, Charlotte Clare and Pelagic Marksman are all busy landing their night's hauls of sardine...

all the boats use pumps to land their catches ashore...

and ice them into tubs...

brought in by young Harrison...

wois tasked to deliver the night's sample of fish...

which provides invaluable data for the fishery and helps contribute to the evidence of just how sustainable the fishery is...

meanwhile there's plenty of gull activity overhead...

as they wonder just how many hands it takes to sort out a tipped tub...

then it's back to pumping for the Serene Dawn...

straight from the tanks...

before the tubs are stacked ready for the transport to collect in a few hours time.
