Spotted on top of a shelf in Steckfenster's Vintage and Antique Curio shop in Chapel Street, Penzance - a rare example and now a must have collectors object from the days when fresh, handline caught mackerel were big business and sent away in these one stone waxed cardboard boxes.

Tom gets his winter coat.
Not many takers for a seat on the prom this morning......
even Tom now has a winter coat.......
which is what you'll need before enjoying a pint in the Tolcarne Inn's beer garden.......
on the quay there's as much ice outside as in the iceworks.......
even the forklift leaves its mark.......
a handful of feet make their way down the quay........
as the scene takes on a more wintry look.......
on the Elizabeth N there's a set of gear to be worked on........
looking back at the empty quay........
and an almost white world........
Jake and trusty companion pause in the harbour commissioners parking spot.......
at Wherry Town there's a chance to re-create a scene from the Titanic movie on the boating pool.

Another first for Cornwall and the first in the UK.
Tregenza's, once the best greengrocers in Penzance, has now become the latest charity shop in the high street - the Cornwall Air Ambulance, the country's first such service, was introduced to provide air cover in remote rural or traffic bound areas........
a single beamer and a handful of inshore boats provided thin pickings for the buyers this morning.....
these mackerel made premium money being as scarce as hen's teeth at the moment.......
plenty of ink about to keep the beamers solvent at this time of year......
there's always one gets to lay down on the job it seems......
pulling in to a berth alongside the Nova Spero.
Fishing on the telly!
A couple of TV programmes feature elements with a local fishing interest over the coming weeks. Tonight's episode of the Edwardian Farm at 8pm on BBC2 sees the guys head off to fish with for crab and lobster in the depths of the winter. The hand made pots being used look just like these made by Nigel Legge on the Lizard, one of the few remaining withy pot makers in the country left still practicising the art .
Over on BBC 2 tomorrow night is the first of two programmes, Rick Stein's Cornish Christmas at 8.30pm - the second episode includes a few well known Newlyn faces discussing fishy Christmas dishes with host Rick Stein in the comfort of the Swordfish.

Busy port with landings - all on the AIS.
The AIS from VesselTracker accurately displays the boats that are against the quays in the harbour. Showing up for the first time are the beamers from the Nowell fleet, Nellie and Elizabeth N.

Snow of sorts.
For a short time the world went white......
so keeping on the move was an imperative, although it was probably warmer inside the market than out......
big men in the world of bass discuss tactics.......
the most tropical looking of north atlantic fish courtesy of the Ben My Chree........
Roger's new command has been out chasing his favourite JDs........
DNA sampling, more to come on this story soon......
keep that hot chocolate hot........

Messin' about in a boat - not always a good idea.
Three lucky teenagers were found drifting by a New Zealand fishing boat in an eleven ft 'tinnie' after being blown 1100 kilomtres from their home island of Tokelau, 30 miles north of Samoa in the Pacific.
