Good mix of quality fish for Friday.

An eerie set of animal figures front the window in Badcock's Gallery......
are joined by Warren's the bakers own window display in the run up to Halloween......
fish were on sale at both ends of the market this morning......
with signs of big squid still in evidence.......
regular Brixham visitor Three Sons takes a break.......
so that's where all the Wherry Town beach pebbles are disappearing too!......
the full extent of trade in Penzance's wet dock with pleasure, leisure, cargo and fishing vessels all in the same shot - as the future of the port's harbour infrastructure gets closer to realisation of some sort as Cornwall Council go with 'Option A'.

Full moon fish

Cornish sardines landed late evening under the light of a full moon.

when the dawn peepeth through - after the coldest night since the summer!

"When the dawn peepeth through", looking beyond the Anglian Princess to the dishes and wind farm on the Lizard.......

The Anglian Princess is back on station in the Bay......
with winter fast approaching most of the yachts have now come out of the water in Penzance......
results of a night's work for a sardine boat......
though there's a straggler left on the quay that the gulls haven't yet spotted......
the buyers have to move to the western end of the market quickly......
waiting in the wings is Wings.

Out hunting.

ng
An early evening start for the small fleet of ringnetters heading out across the Bay to chase the shoals of Cornish Sardines........
end of this neap tide sees a couple of netters putting their trips ashore at the market......
reflecting an interest in Newlyn copper and metal beating........
in town, St John's Hall is still under wraps.

QM2 surrounded by a motley mixture of fishing vessels south of Land's End.

Pick up on VesselTracker's AIS chart for Penzance - an interesting mixture of fishing vessels are spotted in the vicinity of the Queen Mary 2 as she heads West bound for New York. Amazingly, she has a number of web cams on her bridge that can be seen here.

Only the best.

Last minute sorting of big pollack......
sign of a good trip, the Ajax needed two tubs to ice her fish on the market this morning......
for the hands that do dishes.......
a full house of net fish being sold......

and, destined for the very best restaurants, these red mullet from the Cadgwith based Scorpio.......
at sea the boys on the Crystal Sea II are still doing their bit to rid the ocean floor of litter......
the pair team are back in action.

Easy walks from Mylor Bridge.

With the aid of an OS map there are a number of almost flat walks to be enjoyed taking in the delights of the Fal estuary starting from Mylor Bridge and working your way round as far as Restronguet and Weir - with a chance to break for lunch in, or in front of the Pandora Inn.......
after parking next to the Lemon Arms Inn, Mylor Creek makes a good starting point for a number of circular walks.......
though the first glimpse of the upper reaches of the creek were somewhat marred by the amount of oil to be seen floating on the surface of the water - not so, tells one local resident! - the unsightly scum is, in fact, an organic algal bloom that appears when conditions are right.....
looking back towards Mylor Creek Boatyard that specialises in classic and working vessels.......
the walk is filled with many tree covered paths......
and some unusual flora......
if only you knew what to pick.......
there's no escaping rules and regulations here......
walking towards Restronguet Creek and looking across the river to St Just-in-Roseland........
before cutting back across the recently ploughed fields down to Mylor Bridge again......
where a look at the OS map will reveal any number of walks that could be planned easily enough to include breaking for a bite to eat at the Pandora Inn, winner of this year's best pub in Cornwall.
