Dam going Dutch

Doesn't seem like yesterday.......
best hake......
time for a tea in the Netherlands.......
fly past......
ex-fleet tender Mair........

with just what one would expect in a wheelhouse......
heavy duty backstay for the ChloeT.......
in a few weeks time, once the schools break up, the size of the yachts will diminish......
almost ready to get the gear back on board.......
catch the latest showing at the Newlyn Orion Gallery........
Hull registered, Rix Merlin is looking resplendent in her new coat of paint......
definite lack of robustness in this mast........
with a half decent forecast there's every chance of spotting the baskers as they pass Land's End......

tuning up for the second day's media frenzy......
BBC's Blast is a real treat for the kids of Penzance - good to see this sort of thing well away from London - and doing what the BBC does best with our license money - without an advert in sight! All those free runners find out more here!

Rick Stein cookery school gets the full monty from Mr Shorts.

Members of this month's Rick Stein's fish cookery course listen attentively as the dashing Robin gives them chapter and verse on the fish, fishermen and boats that work out of the port......
no Cornish Sardines for Stefan last night - but he did land a few hundred kilos of sprats - not too sure what the MMO would make of the tiny soles or frittura di paranza in Italian......
big, bad, beautiful bass.......
never any end to the inventiveness of boat names and a Responsible Fishing Scheme member too......
its Mr Litter still in port with his well kept deck.......

a days work comes ashore from Mario's boys.......
a pretty tranquil scene this morning......
so the yellow wellies get away early in the sunshine - as usual, its the guys who don their captain's hats and dish out the orders to their spouses -
contrast them with this boat where the helmsman hasn't started school yet!

Tuna look out - she's on her way!

The testing tuna times continue - but now some good news - at last the Ben Loyal has made it through the gaps and is now well on her way down South. Latest news from the Nova Spero is that she caught 120 fish on day one - a good start for the season - keep up with the latest from the Tuna blogs here.

Diary date for next year.

Watch out for a major seafood and fishing event on the 10 November this year at a Central London venue is yet to be decided.

This important seminar will look forward to the approaches that the fishing industry and policy makers can take to conserve marine biodiversity for the future, whilst balancing demands from consumers for the products to which they have grown accustomed.

Local MP, Andrew George will attend the event in his capacity as Shadow Minister for Marine and Natural Environment - get any thoughts, comments or ideas to him well in advance to avoid disappointment - your chance to get your voice heard at the highest level!

The latest agenda is available as a download here.

French trawler, Boree Al on the AIS.

According to the AIS tracking the Boree Al is at anchor - but it could be that she has come fast on the bottom - possibly on a wreck - and has been stationary for some time .
