Bags of ....

Cornishman makes the only big boat landing on the market this morning......
but there are plenty of mackerel to keep buyers busy.....
a few bass fell prey to the boy Dylan again.....
one in, one out, the mackerel punts rush to catch the morning auction.......
and get their fish re-boxed and sorted quickly.......
as the last of the white fish trips are sold......
amidst deep thought and concentration......
a sure sign the Cornish Sardine season is about to start, enough insulated tubs for a good night's work wait on the quay for the orange team to get cracking.....
doesn't seem that long ago the Sapphire was looking immaculate.......
the Pioneer lays at anchor off Wherry Town......
the mackerel punts make their way back to their pontoon berths.....
early summer show at the Orion Gallery.......
though it's not all rubbish.

Harbour Commissioners meeting - The Centre, Newlyn.

Newly appointed members the new Newlyn Harbour Commission have taken guidance from the Good Governance Guide to heart - tomorrow's NHPC meeting is throwing its doors open to the public. Any harbour user or interested party can attend the meeting - held at The Centre, St Peter's Hill - and the first 15 minutes of the meeting will provide a forum for ideas and comments from an open session - after which memebers of the public are welcome to listen - but not take part in - the rest of the proceedings. The meeting is due to start at 10am.

One major difference to this board under the new constitution is that members have been elected on merit to represent all harbour users and not specific areas as in the past - for instance, there are no longer representatives of the boat owning or fish merchant sectors - instead, individual members may have been selected with a particular skillset, commercial, financial or industrial knowledge that together with the other board members provide a broad church from within which decisions on the future of the port may be made.

In good time, the minutes of these meetings will be made public.

Pasta and crab.

After chopping a fennel bulb and then the fronds (for a garnish)......
add them to a large pan of salted boiling water while, into a separate small pan, push some brown crab meat through a sieve add a large knob of butter and few tablespoons of water - heat through till a sauce forms......
once the past and fennel are cooked, drain and add the sauce to coat the pasta and chopped fennel along with a 400gm of white crab meat - some might say it doesn't look so appetising but it does have a knockout creamy taste! - coincidentally, the only recipe on the Dartmouth Seafood festival web site is another pasta and crab dish from Devon super chef Mitch Tonks.
