In fine voice in Mousehole

Making her way to the fish market late Sunday evening, the Roannah (got it right this time Peter!) steams past the bowsprit of a familiar tall ship......
though she is not a regular visitor to Newlyn.......
the TS Royalist is in town for the evening......
over in Mousehole, the famous male voice choir are about to get their first season's concert under way - don't mniss them at the Sea, Salt and Sail festival there in July......
another new punt heads back in through the gaps after chasing mackerel....
the George Johannes won't be burning any fuel up on the slip while she gets her bottom scrubbed....

the new coat of gloss-white gleams in the evening sun!

Paul Churchley's Round Britain 4 RNLI voyage, the next leg

Even 12000 miles 'down under' there is an all too familiar story of men having to give up their way of life at sea it seems....

Work continues apace aboard the Emma Louise........
punts don't come much bigger than this, Ocean Fish's sleek handliner makes her way back to the pontoons....
someone's removed the propellor on the Still Waters it seems......
Making his way down to the pontoons where his boat, Stargate is berthed alomngside the Ivan Ellen, Paul Crichley is all set for the next leg to Padstow in his Round Britain 4 the RNLI
letting go the ends on a heavily overcast but windless morning....
the Stargate gets a gentle shove-off from the pontoon...

glad to be underway after waiting four days for window in the weather, a smiling Paul makes his way towards the gaps - next, turn right for Padstow!

PZ 57 Girl Patricia sinks - all hands rescued

The Girl Patricia, seen here on the slip, was reported to have sunk earlier today. A helicopter from RNAS Culdrose was scrambled and all hands were taken off safely and flown to Treliske Hospital for checks. For the full story from the local newspaper, see the Cornishman.

Busy fresh fish market after the Bank Holiday weekend

Plenty of inshore trips evident on the market......

with a big shot of quality turbot and brill from the Sowenna.........

as ever, the gulls are on stanby for a snack....

as the mackerel fleet put a few boxes ashore, like Mr Morley here......

as does the Dom Bosco with her days crab.....

something to look forward to later this summer in July at Mousehole.........

the landscapers are still busy at the entrance to Penlee Quarry development.......

58.9p per litre in Brixham today!

The big picture

You wouldn't be hard pressed to think this panoramic shot of the harbour was taken in the winter months - but no, this was taken Sunday morning Whit weekend!....
good to see the Bag o' Rags is doing their bit for the Mission and the boys on the Lifeboat......
some visiting German navy patrol boats are resting in Penzance wet dock....
a fresh coat of bright blue anti-fouling is the order of the day for the Harvest Reaper on the slip
as the Aaltje Adriante gets a set of gear ashore.

Breezy weekend in store it seems

Visiting crabbers share similar colour schemes.....
with the breeze blowing from the East the visiting scallop fleet are tied up for a weekend at home
signs of the hacksaw being busy on this discarded cable which was probably trawled up by one of the inshore boats this week....
the strong breeze is apparent on the market as the insulation curtains indicate.....
Nova Spero has only a few tides to do before she makes the change over to tuna fishing when she will have her poles fitted.....
down from Holyhead, another scalloper is in port....
not such good picking for the few mackerel boats that put up with the Easterly breeze this morning it seems.

"Keep those fish iced" says Quentin

yet another boat comes up on the hard for the bottom treatment over a big tide......
straight from the fridge on the market, Quentin fills an insulated tub of ice for the mornings mackerel fishing....
and lowers it aboard the Sea Spirit, of course it won't be too long before Quentin joins the Nova Spero on her first tuna trip of the year, planned for June month....
time to stow the gear aboard the Chloe T, so Paul, sporting a 'tach these days, puts his back into it!
