if you are coming to Newlyn, there's a B&B with fine views overlooking the harbour at the old Smugglers Hotel, 01726 334501
or, if you fancy a more permanent move, this waterside property in the Old Harbour gives views over the harbour and right across the Bay to St Michael's Mount and beyond, they don't come better....
get that paint on while the sun shines, the old ABS, soon to be known as the Emma Louise gets a top coat on her shelterdeck.....
as can be seen here with Mike wearing the first of the new T shirts for skipper and crew, all clothing, flags and bunting for the Rowse fleet supplied by the Bag 'o Rags clothing company, based in Penzance Dock...
first visit this morning in a long time for the Brixham beamer, Three Sons...

these days the Penlee Quarry Marina development now sports a smart new entrance that has been carved in the side of the cliff......
a full load of ice comes down the shoot for the beamer Sapphire, planning on getting three days in before the forecast gale of wind on Thursday hits the coats.....
so Roger on the Nantewan gets away quickly after taking ice.
over in Mousehole, a punt loaded with withy pots will no doubt be photographed a million times this summer by visiting trippers.

Cornish sardine catching cat

The latest Cornish sardine catcher has arrived in Newlyn from Baumbach's of Hayle. PZ81 Lyonesse has been built for skipper Sam Lambourn.
The remaining two WS&S wooden beamers owned are back together again.

A life in chains...

A fresh coat of sky-blue paint looks good...
suspended half way up the gear....
the port-side trawl on the Cornishman gets an overhaul...
and the windy-gun echoes around the stillness of the harbour....as both sets of gear tower over the quayside....aboard the AA, Crab Da' takes charge on deck....

young Dan Nicholls has now completed 5 trips aboard his uncle's boat the GaryM - he is still trying to find out if it was one of his relatives that sailed to Australia aboard the Mystery over 100 years ago - any information gratefully received!

That evening light again

The evening sunlight catches the wheelhouse of the Elizabeth Caroline PZ293....
Jersey registered Kerloch J235, seen here loaded with gear, hasn't been in Newlyn for a while....
so the gulls show an interest in her....
they don't call him Arnie for nothing - Elizabeth N skipper, Michael Nowell 'works out' before coming ashore...
gear time aboard one of the chain-harrow gang......
as the sun goes down, the lighthouse bathes in the evening glow...
still thriving despite new technology, the craftsmanship of Cyril Nicholas from Squirrel Signs is evident aboard the Achieve, traditional signwriting and lining, signmaking, portraits and murals ....
more crab coming ashore from the Intuition...
as the Emma Louise gets more of the Rowse colour scheme...
a local wag has been busy with the white paint it seems!
a rare sight, not a single boat 'on the hard'.
