The Connemerra and Barra An Aod shelter from the winter's first seriious blow along with..
the Kuzh Heol and Le Nautile from Loctudy...
seen here on Sunday...
the Roxanne, now registered in Douarnenez was originally a startling purple in colour...
late on Sunday afternoon, Le Casquests joins the other sheltering vessels..
she's from the tiny fishing port of St Brieux on the Cote D'Amorthe mate seen here indicating to the skipper that there are 5m of water showing on the stone quay depth guage...

she makes her way down the harbour....and into tier....

outside the Swordfish, l'equippage de la Kuzh Heol take advantage of their enforced 'vacance'!
Badcock's gallery have a campaign to support the internationally recognised Shelterbox charity

It's westerly, wet, windy and worse to come!

'Tom', as the monument appears to have been christened, looks out over a windswept bay as the Anglian Princess rides out the heavy swell....
the Trevessa rests alongside the fishmarket, down the harbour the fleet are all in, including the netters, all of whom have been prevented from sailing by the poor forecast...
Juicy is about to join the rest of the crew on the Cornishman as they go through the gear...
the heavy footrope deserves special attention...as both sets of gear are heaved to the top of the derricks for inspection, pretty clean they look after their trip...
all quiet late Saturday afternoon down a rainswept new quay
if you're in the area, it's your last chance to catch the Lineage exhibition at the Orion Gallery.

Colour co-ordinated crabber

seems shades of yellow are cool on crabbers....
another bit of scrap trawled up....
the port side derrick gets the treatment on the Cornishman down the new quay

Netters ready to go

Big red cat Thomas Andrew on the pontoons....
One of the few varnished boats in the south west, built in Girvan of course, the Brittania IV gets a clean up just before the next neap tide.....
hot from RNAS Culdrose, one of the Sea King Rescue 'parafin budgies' makes a fly past over Penzance
familiar vistor and ex-sidewinder Hatherleigh has been in town for a few days....
the boys will busy in the morning with plenty of gear to go back aboard the Ocean Sprayseems that 'Grimmy' Mike has a new contract to catch bait for the crabbers - a disappointing day's work aboard the old girl!

Big boulder trouble

Fresh paint job on PZ 542......
the all blue Girl Patricia gets her bottom done on the slip....
what an environmentally conscious lot aboard the Billy Rowney!....
colour co-ordinated net gear......
early morning preen with their youngster
a bevy of beamers........
out in the bay the Danmar puts a diver aboard the Algrie, the port side gear can be seen against the side - too much weight in the trawl with a large boulder is suspected.....sure enough, once in the gaps, the Algrie gets her gear up to assess the damage after Jeremy cut out a boulder taller than him!

later, Jeremy gets to pass on the details of his dive job on the Algrie once he gets ashore with Clive, Stevo's fleet boss......and down the quay the Newlyn Harbour Lights crew are hard at work over the weekend - any help would be appreciated - call in at the Fisherman's Arms

World record thresher shark in Newlyn

510 Kgs of thresher shark wait on Newlyn market......
what's thought to be a world record was caught by Roger Nowell on the inshore stern trawler Imogen. Roger wasn't best pleased as the 16 foot long shark broke his winch!

Black day at Newlyn

Lionel leads from behind as another group of visitors tour of the harbour....
on the day the market floor runs black, jet black....

yes, the cuttles are back in town - with several tons landed this morning
at the clean end of the market, the Gary M lands a nice trip that includes spurdogs as well as the 'new' cod, our friend the pollack. Big news today are the swinging quota cuts indicated for Cod and other species in the South West - how throwing dead fish back in the sea even begin to count as a means of conservation is beyond the ken of all, save for those who still persist in managing fisheries in this part of the world?
