Pollack Boarding

Through the Gaps this morning, which looked promising...
Dave Rhodes hauling in the Pollack board.
First fish of the day, which turned out to be a very slow day, only 5 fish to show for a few hours towing.
The new Iphone cover now modified so that it does not cover the lens in the top right hand corner. Tomorrow is another day!

A quiet Monday

Plenty of good monk tails around at the moment with many of the beamers out in the deepwater.......
one solitary conger, the ground off Pendeen must be heavy with the beats these days......
guess the owner of knees behind the razor fan.........
dazzling bass on offer again.......
anyone for golf?.......
line caught quality from the inshore boats.......
and a good run of hake from the netter, Ajax........
more signs of summer, squid in evidence with the small trawlers........
so after a week off with fore end probs the EV is back at sea again after taking ice......
the Shiralee is looking good after her annual paint up.......
quiet enough this morning with no wind to speak of.......
can't be many more three weeks to go for the Emma........
a Senior moment, a man at ease at the helm.......
all is well it seems.......
bound for the cradle and the slip........
as the big scalloper, Harengvliet from Brixham heads in Through the Gaps......
new gear going aboard the Ajax just before she sails.......
handy little tender for sale.

Huge shark spotted near Land's End

Looking more like the Windies, a yacht passes inside the Longships Light.......
while the gig Brisons gets a workout in the heat of the day......
meanwhile a huge basking shark gives this canoeist reason to paddle fast.

Bottom scrub for the Vipa

Deutsch travel machine.......
gulls taking a freshwater dip......
local ship's chandlers Cosalt used to have dozens of rolls of green tape - many boats wouldn't take it to sea - green for grief........
looks like there's a few new planks to go in the deck of the St Georges........
towed into position ready for a good scrubbing......
Lamorna bound in.......
and landed.........

don't loose that cleat......
powerpack.......
summer fish sales set to soar in sunshine......
the big fellas chew the fat in the market café.

Leather Back Turtle in the Bay

Today Francis and I set off again to free some pots, which had become hitched. The weather was fantastic, but the tides were still strong so we decided to go for low water slack. Just passed St Clements Island near what the locals call the Trees, when Francis spots a Leather Back Turtle.
This was the biggest turtle I have ever seen and I have seen my fair share, diving in the Red Sea, Caribbean, Bahamas etc...
The only way I can describe its size is that it was about the size of a small car..
Shame we could not get any closer as we would only spook the turtle
Others then moved in to see what can only be described as a truly amazing sight, both Francis and I agreed that this was definitely the highlight of the day. Kev Penney
