Latest new boat to join the fleet in Newlyn, Imogen III

Now, it's the third iteration, another sequel in the Nowell fishing family saga...

the Imogen III is an ex-Loctudy day fishing stern trawler...

with a spacious wheelhouse for skipper Roger Nowell...

all winches and all four net drums controlled from the wheelhouse make the boat really safe for the guys on deck...

with her four net drums skipper Roger will be able to keep fishing no matter what, especially for his beloved John Dory...

theres a compact galley and mess good enough for the short trips and day fishing that she will be doing...

her 300Hp Caterpillar main engine has just been fully serviced - a requirement of French regulations - -once every three years...

room in the fishroom for a hundred or so boxes, plenty forthe short trips Roger will do with her...

a recent safety innovation for all French vessels, all the water outlets from the cooling and main engine and deck washes actually come out above deck and are fed over the side at deck level - so its impossible to syphon back and sink the boat at anytime - and the crew get to notice if any of them stop running...

a couple of fish washers down the port side deck...

and a view of the four net drums on the gantry looking aft.

Saturday morning in Newlyn and its #backtobusiness

Christmas lights are glowing...

some of the boats haven't moved for a while...

and have even been captured in oils, Sennen Lifeboat man Dan Shannon wields a mean brush...

its ice and water time for the boats intending to catch the first lucrative market of the year next week...

a steady hand guides the ice down below...

another steady hand readies himself for the last trip of 2013...

as the ice gets shovelled off the lorry...

a few last minute repairs are made to one of the trawls...

the weather is still not settled and with the wind up nor' westerly heavy showers are the order of the day...

and blast across the harbour...

as the last of the crew make it to the boat for the final trip of the year...

big tides mean the netters won't be going anywhere until the weekend coming...

as another Cornish Lass enjoys a few minutes in the sun...

before the heavy cloud passing by unleashes another shower...

over another lifeboat in the port...

for some there is a change of colour and a lick of new paint, like the big inshore trawler, Elisabeth Veronique...

at rest, Ivan Ellen under imposing skies...

with the scores for call-outs one short for both boats off last year - it's a good job in out #targets led culture that the RNLI hasn't succumbed to introducing them - given that the ideal target to aim at would be zero ;-) ...

a new broom sweeps clean, so the old saying goes - notice to the pontoon users from the incoming harbour master...

one main engine fired up...

and another...

as the boats ready themselves for a very lumpy first 12 hours at sea for their last trips of the year...

with a little help from the Chickadee...

it's time for the Resurgan to head for the ice works...

the view out across the Bay is about as grey as it gets...

patrolled by one of the resident grey gulls...

as the prom gets another soaking from a passing shower.
