Stakeholder's guide to the MSC

Magnifique monster monk!

Photo courtesy of the Newlyn netter, Stelissa

This monster monk from the deep must have given the crew a shock as it came over the top of the hauler! - reminiscent of Turner's, 'Sunrise and Sea Monsters' - which, by coincidence, is currently on show at the St Ives Tate 'Aquatopia' exhibition that runs until the 26th of January 2014.

North sea divers working on well heads, rigs and pipelines have all had scary moments when giant monk lunge at them from being half hidden in sand!

The bass boys bag big bass and bring them back for this mornings Monday market!

Monday's market was busy enough...

with a solitary reg gurnard keeping an eye on things...

with some taking it all in their stride it seems...

top quality fish like these huge, 'handbag' John Dory...

and a big consignment of bass fro the hook and line boats working off the hard ground...

with a handful of grey mullet landed...

just the one landing of hake from the netter, Ajax....

while down the quay the Crystal Sea is landing waste from her trip...

a steel Breton stern trawler lays inside the Elisabeth Veronique yet another new boat for the port as Newlyn goes through its biggest surge in big boat acquisition in modern times which given the current uncertainty in the world at large is testimony to the grit and determination of all those skippers and owners prepared to buck the trend, bite the bullet and make the most of the abundant fishing grounds now found in the Western Approaches...

everyone, including Tom is being treated to a succession of soaring sunrises at the moment.

as she berths against the quay...

then its time to repait the gear...

the harbour lights looking bigger and better this year are almost ready to be switched on...

fish about to go into the waiting transport...

don't forget the charity bash at the Swordfish coming on Thursday the 28th of November!...
