A ground sea running

There's a good chance the local surfers will take advantage of the wave running down the back of the quay in a spot known as the graveyard......
back in after a trip cut short thanks to the blow, the Nowell brothers land to a lorry.....
a handful of 'Bricky' beamers lay off the end of the New Quay....
along with the 3 Sons......
and the Goodwill....

with a strong offshore wind on the south coast only the local surfers will be happy today with this ground sea running!

The missing bridge

Young Roger Nowell making his way up the harbour to land at the market after being forced back in by a big ground sea running in front of tomorrow's big depression......
causing all through traffic to take the Penzance by-pass and shrouded in plastic sheeting, Ross Bridge has been lifted on to the road and is currently being shotblasted and repaired - to the right, the stern end of the Scillonian III is visible while she undergoes her annual refit in Penzance dry-dock.....
an unusually shaped piece of cut granite sits outside the entrance to the Abbey Warehouse development.

Get the RNLI to wash away the blues!

Heavy skies full of sleet and snow pass over a sheltering coaster in the Bay.....
the Berlewen puts her trip ashore to the waiting lorry bound for Plymouth market on Monday....
along with the Harvest Reaper and the Silver Dawn waiting alongside the ice berth....
the early light catches the Emma Louise in tier with her vivier pump running hard......
time to shift the Berlewen t make way for the next landing.....
over by the inshore RNLI boathouse the boys are hard at work on a charity car-wash session.....
last effort raised well over £450 for the day!

3 Sons under a full moon

Brixham inshore beamer 3 Sons has both sets of 3 metre gear up for overhaul.....
while the fishing lights have their bulbs replaced atop the wheelhouse....
A big moon hangs over the harbour gaps heralding the end of another neap tide, the morning will see the biggest of the netting fleet back in port to land their trips....
visiting Brixham beamer Harvester lays alongside the George Johannes.....
harbour marks, a red light in line with the Red Lion public house on the harbour wall
the Intuition is up on the slip for an anti-fouling session.....
here's an example of really moving with the times, there's considerable thought and innovation gone into the build and design of the punt, Blue-Belle from St Ives - from her Spencer Carter mini hauler up for'ard to the all-in-one wheelhouse and canopy extending over most of the afterdeck.

Washed ashore

Washed ashore on the north side of St Martins on Christmas Eve, two buffs and a piece of rail from the Girl Patricia. This shot, taken outside the Post Office on St Martins was sent in by Richard Perkins who lives on the island.

Warped

The roadside at Wherrytown looks more like the Strip in Vegas these days......
though there are parts of Newlyn well lit including the blue-light area.....
atop the Mission roof the job of returning the golden galleon windvane to its rightful spot appears to have brought about a major construction job - judging by the amount of scaffolding perched on the roof - gone are the days of two lads, a couple of ladders and a few lengths of rope scrounged from down the quay......
fresh boxes wait to go back aboard the Cornishman.....
but not before the gear is put back together.....
while the winds blow boats get to grrips with the ongoing maintenance required to keep them working, the Nellie gets a new set of warps aboard in the gathering dusk......

while the Dom Bosco's shelterdeck gets a good washdown at the end of a hard day.

Against the tide

Some fleet footwork from David Stevens Snr means that......
David Stevens Jnr can turn the boat using a spring against a strong wind blowing across the harbour from the South.
