Big red cat Thomas Andrew on the pontoons....
One of the few varnished boats in the south west, built in Girvan of course, the Brittania IV gets a clean up just before the next neap tide.....
hot from RNAS Culdrose, one of the Sea King Rescue 'parafin budgies' makes a fly past over Penzance
familiar vistor and ex-sidewinder Hatherleigh has been in town for a few days....
the boys will busy in the morning with plenty of gear to go back aboard the Ocean Sprayseems that 'Grimmy' Mike has a new contract to catch bait for the crabbers - a disappointing day's work aboard the old girl!

Big boulder trouble
Fresh paint job on PZ 542......
the all blue Girl Patricia gets her bottom done on the slip....
what an environmentally conscious lot aboard the Billy Rowney!....
colour co-ordinated net gear......
early morning preen with their youngster
a bevy of beamers........
out in the bay the Danmar puts a diver aboard the Algrie, the port side gear can be seen against the side - too much weight in the trawl with a large boulder is suspected.....sure enough, once in the gaps, the Algrie gets her gear up to assess the damage after Jeremy cut out a boulder taller than him!
later, Jeremy gets to pass on the details of his dive job on the Algrie once he gets ashore with Clive, Stevo's fleet boss......and down the quay the Newlyn Harbour Lights crew are hard at work over the weekend - any help would be appreciated - call in at the Fisherman's Arms

World record thresher shark in Newlyn
510 Kgs of thresher shark wait on Newlyn market......
what's thought to be a world record was caught by Roger Nowell on the inshore stern trawler Imogen. Roger wasn't best pleased as the 16 foot long shark broke his winch!

Black day at Newlyn
Lionel leads from behind as another group of visitors tour of the harbour....
on the day the market floor runs black, jet black....
yes, the cuttles are back in town - with several tons landed this morning
at the clean end of the market, the Gary M lands a nice trip that includes spurdogs as well as the 'new' cod, our friend the pollack. Big news today are the swinging quota cuts indicated for Cod and other species in the South West - how throwing dead fish back in the sea even begin to count as a means of conservation is beyond the ken of all, save for those who still persist in managing fisheries in this part of the world?

After last night's blow....
Alongside the market, the Dora Rosa has her landing gear up....
off Penzance promenade and with a swell running, a Mount's Bay gig gets in some late-season practice under the watchful gaze of the MCA's Anglian Princess.....
heave! - five boxes at a time go into the market fridge ready for Monday's auction....
the Ma Grinole, running on corn.....
as ever, the boys from Celtic Scaffolding get stuck in erecting platforms for this year's Christmas lights
there's a tree on the ice works already.....
and Santa's on his way!

down the new quay a stray box advertises the port to passers by.....
on Newlyn Green our new friend watches over PZ199, the Algrie as she makes her way to the gaps....
and minutes later the guys are busy servicing the running gear......
the new whaleback nears completion on the crabber to be.

down the new quay, the George Johannes gets her derrick hanging blocks greased....
it's a Thursday market, and a quiet one at that, the western end of the market with not a box of fish in sight..... Nelwyn's fisherman's memorial looks out over the bay in the early hours, its ten years ago this week that local beam trawler, Margaretha Maria went down south of the Lizard, with the loss of all hands.
