First #FishyFriday of November in Newlyn.

The first #FishyFriday of November saw Newlyn fish market end-to-end with fish this morning from two beam trawlers all the inshore trawlers and a gill netter which meant there were plenty of fish species to tempt the buyers...

like these big tub gurnards...

other-wordly ray...

focussed dogfish...

sporting their menacing spurs...

just some of the many species of sharks regularly seen on the market...

rays coming from the same family...

or a giant squid...

stunning quality - top landing of the week for haddock went to the boys on the Liz Veronique...

which was huge for a relatively small inshore trawler...

as was this solitary monk tail from the beamer Sapphire II...

and her cracking shot of plaice...

while skipper 'Dumps' on the Lisa Jacqueline banged this big trip with 60 boxes of Dovers and 60 boxes of monk to make one of his best landings since returning from 20 years on North Sea oil support vessels...

there were a few plaice in his trip of course...

and a few megs...

while Uncle Tom stole a few of the handliner's bass from under their noses...

and took the trophy for biggest turbot of the week...

and sneaked a few JDs away in young Roger's absence...

just one of the Dovers from the Lisa...

Tom wasn't the only inshore trawler to bag a bass it seems...

a small yellow-welly convention...

look who bought the best bass this morning...

smoke from the big main engine on the beamer Sapphire II shows that the air is a little cooler this morning...

big boats need bigger kit to handle their gear...

especially when you own two of them...

the Hosking fleet has not only a trailer rigged with a net transporter for pulling miles of nets off te boats but also an articulated lorry-sized trailer...

just arrived to set the sardine fishery ablaze, Ocean Fish proudly presents the Vesta to join the AsthoreMayflower and resolute in their sardine fleet...

she has a radical new deck layout and for the first time the company has opted for a forward wheelhouse version of these mini-purse seiners...

complete with triplex-style winch for hauling the huge net aboard into the aft net pound.
