Mid-week market in Newlyn

A brace of Troon registered ex- beam-trawlers-turned-scallopers hard at work...

overhauling their dredges...

on the other side of the quay several tons of steel awaits the cutting tools before going aboard the latest re-build project...

the farce that is > or <15m when it comes to the crabbing fleet...

looks like a pretty substantial repair on the rather aptly named, Wild Knight yacht after it suffered the unwanted attention of a not quite passing boat in the middle of the night last week...

Asthore, heading back to berth and waiting to go up on the slip...

as night turns into Wednesday morning...

and a bevvy of FalFish trainees enjoy a morning market tour...

getting the chance to see beam trawl, inshore line, net and trawl fish and even fish from another invisible netter...

the Padstow registered, Charisma...

with the bulk of the Resurgan's fish made up of monk...

topped up by a few more quality flats like these turbot...

while the Innisfallen was obviously "in" with the squids...

the Boy Lee...

and Tom's Harvest Reaper were not so lucky...

while Mr Smith piled a good shot of the very best quality line caught pollack on the market from the good ship Sea Spray...

other fish included a smattering of mackerel...

and John Dory...

while the Boy Lee pulled a couple of minster Dovers form the sands in the Bay...

and the Innis Fallen the same with a few ray...

beautiful brill...

all getting the benefit of incredibly useful fishy information from Nathan DeRosarieux...

not many bass about this morning...

but plenty of hake...

down on the deck, skipper Brackan powers down the boxes from the quayside...

on the Spirited Lady III...

more evidence as to how little ghost fishing goes on with lost nets form the local netting fleet fishing for hake.
