Sad day for Newlyn, tragedy for a fishing family.

The Resurgam PZ1001 with police in attendance this morning.

A Newlyn fishing family suffered a tragic accident yesterday when a crew member who was working on the beam trawler Resurgam. Local emergency services were called to Newlyn Harbour, Cornwall, around 16:15 Thursday afternoon.



Sadly, the young man was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers are not treating the death as suspicious. South Western Ambulance Service said a land ambulance, air ambulance and a senior paramedic attended the scene.

Later in the evening, Penlee lifeboat put to sea in very sad circumstances to pick up the skipper of the beam trawler Billy Rowney and take him home to his family. 

The MIAB and MCA are currently aboard the vessel.
