Plenty of quality 'Cornish' brand fish landed for #FishyFriday.


Still waters run deep, you don't have to be many miles south of Newlyn before you are on 30 fathoms of water which is where fish like these gorgeous John Dory love to hang out...


which goes for these custodians of the deep, big monk fish...


while fish like ray...


Dover sole...


and lemons venture closer to the shore for the benefit of inshore trawlers...


whereas bass are favoured by anglers and fishermen alike as they swim right up to the beaches and cliffs of Cornwall...


red mullet make fantastic eating when cooked correctly - a fish to be under rather than over-cooked and cooked whole so tat the flesh can be easily pulled away from the fine bones - not one for fussy fish eaters but then they will be missing out on this most Mediterranean of piscatorial delights...


brill on the other hand make great eating when filleted...


whereas members of the bream family make for any recipe that uses them whole and baked in the oven...


bigger John Dory make great for great tasty fillets...


while Dover sole...


plaice...


and lemons develop even more flavour when cooked whole on the bone...


luckily anyone wanting to buy fish caught locally in Newlyn...


can always choose from any number of species...


and get the best possible advice from Master Fishmonger, Elaine Lorys at Stevenson's shop, the first woman in the UK ever to qualify as such - a huge personal achievement for Elaine and yet another example of how Newlyn leads the fishing world when it comes to putting the very best fish on our tables - for which Elaine will travel to London next week to receive her award in one of London's most ancient City Guilds, the historic Fishmonger's Hall...


meanwhile out in the harbour the Saturday morning rush to take ice continues...


while others wait for warp to be run on to winches...


the prawn trawler Aquarius made something of a dramatic entrance as the boat refused to go astern...


somewhat confusing the skipper of the Still Waters...


luckily the Danmark spotted the problem in time and sped to lend a hand and get the boat into a suitable berth to land her trip of langoustine...


always good to welcome a new addition to the fleet as more pots are all set to be deployed...


the Our Roseanne from Plymouth heads for the ice works...


and Fishing News' Highly Commended 'Shellfisherman of the Year', aka @Cornish_Lobster Andrew Stevens heads for the market with his morning's work...
