#FishyFriday in Newlyn

It's a typical Friday early Friday morning in Newlyn with most of the netting fleet and day boats away at sea and a busy market all set for deliveries over the weekend...

Cap'n Cod has dropped off a few boxes of mackerel to go with the dozen bass caught last night, this morning he was beaten back by a freshening wind...

the inshore fish auction is well underway...

as Newlyn sells not only fish landed by boats working directly from the port but also takes fish over-landed from the dozens of small coves, ports and harbours around the Cornish coastline...

megrim soles are still one of the major fish species landed by beam trawlers like the Cornishman...

and the Trevessa IV...

while an inshore boat like the Maverick specialises in line caught pollack...

others like the Pelagic Marksman target sardines...

while other small inshore boats might even pick up a few very black congers hiding in the rocks...

and the odd plaice at this time of year...

along with much heavier landings of better-late-than-never mackerel...

as usual, young Mr Nowell touched on a few John Dory to fill his fishroom...

and a large undulate ray...

boxes are two shades of grey and red these days...

Tom managed a few JDs as well to go with...

the rest of his day's work...

the end is in sight, Project Link have all but completed Stage II of the market...

there's plenty of mackerel around so they can be caught off the pier...

around high water...

regular Dutch beam trawler visitor, Zeebrugge...

is servicing her deck gear between trips...

while the National Crime Agency have yet to complete their work on the yacht from which five men were arrested yesterday...

the Ajax now has a spotless hull and new anodes and is about to come down the slipway...

while the latest boat to join the Rowse fleet, Nimrod rests between trips...

the Imogen III heading back in...

an early morning sun catches half of the beam trawl fleet in port...

as the protest gathers more support.
