Heavy snowfall for the first time in 32 years hits Penzance and Nelwyn.

Flags flap in the fiercely cold freshening easterly wind ahead of the St Piran Day celebrations next week...

looking for somewhere to enjoy local fish over the weekend? head for the Shore...

looking towards the sea, obliterated by the increasingly heavy snow showers...

as a few souls get to take rare pics...

of Cornwall's only promenade covered in snow, and a few beach pebbles thrown up at the previous high tide...

looking towards Newlyn...

first time since opening there are no skateboarders pulling tricks on Wherry Town skatepark......

with snow right down to the water's edge...

with Newlyn Green now all white...

and Tom still keeping an eye on things out to sea...

no punters enjoying the delights of the beer garden but there are plenty of hot fish dishes, fine beer and a log fire in the Tolcarne Inn...

normally, the Mission cafe would have been full of fishermen chewing the fat bemoaning the inclement weather...

instead, there's not even traffic passing through the town...

and the harbour is all quiet...

as high water passes...

the harbour has its first snowman for many decades...

with plenty of boxes stacked waiting to go back to sea...

along with those at the iceworks...

the forecast has given NE or E 8 increasing 9 later for the seas around Cornwall so the fleet will be in port for at least another 24 hours...

let's hope the orange boat stays put too...

there's a good chance skipper Sid is at home making snowmen over the spring tide...

which should see the transport stationary for a few more days...

looks lie the snow arrived before the guys had a chance to get all the new nets aboard...

the netter, Stelissa...

snow-covered decks are even more rare than Arctic gulls in Newlyn...

just the one visitor down the quay...

with the netters all set for sailing on Monday...

as the snow shower gets heavier...

and the winds increase...

the driver still needs to stay warm...

green for go, it's all quiet at the Co-op which, like all the Newlyn pubs, was open for business as usual...

the mission at night...

with several cars still in contact with one another an treacherous conditions Chywoone Hill has been closed off by the police to prevent further accidents...

heading back along the front past Newlyn gallery.
