OUR OCEAN, AN OCEAN FOR LIFE CONFERENCE IN MALTA

The final report from the Our Ocean Conference is all about driving commitments. Commitments that will reduce marine pollution, manage aquatic resources sustainably, mitigate climate change, and set up marine sanctuaries. Since 2014, the Our Ocean Conference has brought about 250 concrete actions across the world, committing over EUR 8.2 billion (USD 9.2 billion) and designating 9.9 million square kilometres as new Marine Protected Areas (MPAs).

On 5 and 6 October 2017, the European Union hosted the 4th edition of the Our Ocean 2017 conference in Malta. The outcome of the conference was unprecedented and stands to prove that together we can ensure a future for Our Ocean, which is safe, secure, clean and healthy: 437 tangible and measurable commitments; EUR 7.2 billion in financial pledges; 2.5 million square kilometres of additional Marine Protected Areas.
