Final #FishyFriday before the Fish Festival in Newlyn

Look out for Through the Gaps @NewlynFish Festival this year...

and a selection of images from the blog over the last few years...

the gulls are up early this morning looking out for shoals of immature herring that have been a feature of the shoreline over the big tide...

the boats that landed for #FishyFriday are a a mixture of beam and inshore bottom trawlers to finish off the week...

so there's plenty of monk...

Dover sole...

lemon sole...

plaice...

but not so much top drawer fish like this stunning red mullet which must have been caught at the end of the last haul judging by its colour and condition...

a handful of turbot...

and a heavy-drinking ray it seems...

along with a few John Dory...

while the Sea Spray under the command of Captain Smith landed his customary quota of pristine pollack...

one of the St Ives boys just can't resist getting stuck into a few congers...

while Nigel and Co came up trumps with a good few boxes of gurnards...

and a light touch of ray...

the cuttles are making well over £5.00 at the moment...

some grey mullet found its way into the market too...

along with a trio of cod...

while this lesser spotted dogfish seems to have had issues playing with lego as a youngster and is now stuck with it over his head...

while on the market the buyers are busy checking proves with their customers...

all looks serene in the confines of the harbour...

as the Macduff transport waits for the next boatload of scallops to arrive...

and right on cue...

the Zara Annabel arrives...

back on the quay, there's gear to be sorted...

and if you are starting out your career at sea then you won't do much worse than having the one and only Freddie as your mentor...

so who better than him to manage the gear for the big netters Stelissa and Silver Dawn...

back in town the dish of the week looks delish in the market cafe...

while the barbers are just reminding everyone where they will be come Monday...

when you can get copies of the Penlee Lifeboat's history signed by the crew on their stall...

or take time out listening to the Hoodle in the Swordfish over the road...

or enjoy some of Robert Jones' artwork...

and enjoy his ability to catch the light on the cliff fields around the Land's End area...

while the gull population are more interested in catching breakfast as they wait for the teeming shoals of juvenile herring that seem to invade the local beaches this week.
