THE OBLIGATION TO LANDING strangled FISHERMEN EUROPEAN
The landing obligation, Article 15 of the PCP Regulations is impracticable for European fishermen and the introduction must be stopped immediately. If the introduction is completed as planned, it will be a catastrophe for the entire fisheries sector, inclusive related companies (suppliers, processing and marketing).
The fishermen are desperate and waiting for uncertain times. How is it possible that Brussels could abandon European fishermen and fishing-related businesses?
When the decision was made to introduce a landing obligation, with hasty implementation, we have not given the socio-economic consequences in the short and long term. There are still ideas to achieve more selective fisheries, but there is no time to act in an effective manner.
Fishermen will be subject to high fees to adapt their vessels to the necessary changes because of this strange measure.
Except that the landing requirement does not contribute to the reduction of food waste, the measure is biologically irresponsible and contrary to the laws of nature. More and more scientists confirm this. The possibility of survival of undersized target species, depends largely on varying circumstances. Accurate data is hardly available to demonstrate the possibility of survival, although intensive research has been done by scientific institutes.
We urge you to revise Article 15 immediately and replace the landing obligation by a feasible and practicable alternative.
The landing obligation is unworkable and unacceptable for professionals in the fisheries sector.
ON BEHALF OF ALL THE FISHERMEN CONCERNED EUROPEANS AND OTHER STAKEHOLDERS
