They come from far and wide

Beam trawlers, inshore trawlers, prawn trawlers and three netters make up the landings board this morning...

with a big mix of fish ranging from red mullet...

to Dover soles...

to John Dory...

even a cock lobster...

also showing off his masculinity, the 'claspers' of a blonde ray hidden within the folds of skin are extremely sharp hooks that have lacerated the hands of unknowing fishermen and anglers alike...

even the small inshore trawler, Shiralee gets in on the megrim sole action...

while the presence of whole monk tells of Scottish boats landing on the market...

along with boxes of turbot from the trammel nets of the Joy of Ladram and Silver Dawn fill the western end of the market...

boxes of roes tell of big white fish...

and big turbot like these will no doubt be going out to the tables of the best restaurants around the country tonight and tomorrow

Sea Spray, the last word in quality for pollack on Newlyn fish market...

only big white fish from the by-catch of the super-sustainable Silver Dawn...

all get the measure of Cefas...

after yesterday's bumper hake landings there were only a few boxes from the Ajax this morning...

almost matched by the huge trip of turbot from the Joy of Ladram...

which kept the buyers busy bidding...

meanwhile, the task of bringing fish to port sees the earliest of the mackerel men heading for the market...

while others make their way to the gaps...

to try their luck...

though pickings look like they are not amounting to more than a shaky box or so for those who made an early start...

new to the port this year are two more Scottish prawn trawler...

along with the sea cadet training ship TS John Jerwood...

and the Brixham sailing trawler Leader which was built in 1892 on the river Dart...

boxes full of white fish piled high from the two new boats working from the port...

the prawner Bragoden...

landing inside the Asteria...

up the quay, the heavy footrope of the prawner Fladda Maid can be seen hanging over the transom stern.
