It's Quay Day at Golowan

You see a lot of flags around the town during Golwan week....here, a patriotic display outside the Tony Sanders Gallery in historic Chapel Street...
.......visitors from far and wide!
Over in Newlyn the IRB gets a wetting.
It seems the Farmer's Arms in Penzance had breakfast covered on Sunday !
For Sale, one ex-Portuguese classic inshore fishing boat recently sailed by top local mackerel fisherman Dick Edes back from Spain. Contact 01736 332112 or nick@pilchardworks.co.uk

More and more pleasure craft are making use of Newlyn and the new marina style pontoon berths - another motor yacht leaves the harbour.
The pontoons are also proving a hit with the local anglers - mullet are the target species at the moment and here is a decent specimen being weighed.
Look twice - it's a model!
Ex-fisherman Bobby Sowden shows off his stunning model of local beamtrawler, PZ166 Sapphire owned and skippered by Miachael Corin at the boating pool as part of Golwan Festival's Quay Day celebrations.

Local fish, local restaurants

Work on the Imogen to install an aluminium shelter is progressing well
Punt PZ140 is off to St Ives to chase mackerel 'round the corner' - it pays some punt owners to transport their boats by road rather than make the long, and potentially dangerous trip by sea around Land's End.
In Penzance it' s Golowan week which culminates in Mazey Day this weekend.
Good to see our local restaurants make the most of local fish supplies.

Where do Newlyn Harbour fish boxes go to die?

Penlee Quarry is still the scene of activity - a new entrance road has recently been carved out of a spoil tip.
The forepeak bulkhead has been removed from the Bryan D.
Rothesay tug.
Imaginative use for old fish boxes - hanging veg gardens!

Top London chef sources Newlyn fish!

Top London chef Tom Aiken begins his day in Newlyn mission meeting some of the fishermen he hopes will soon be supplying his new venture, a fish and chip shop with a difference - serving the freshest seasonal UK fish imaginable! We have Keith Floyd to thank for showing a real interest in fish back in the early Seventies; let's hope Tom inspires other top chef's around the country to source Cornish fish.A hectic schedule touring the port keeps Tom and his wife (of three days!) Amber, busy during their 'honeymoon'!
Prime fish examples of local produce thanks to Jake on the Go For It.
Meanwhile the Bryan D continues to shrink down to the waterline.
